so ... I'm confused. Are you saying that the legality of it is keeping you from 'wishing' for a gun ... or you just choose to 'take your chances' that the person won't actually harm you?

I guess i need to be a little more finite with the situation because i guess the word 'wish' isn't distinct enough. IF you were able to have a gun (presuming it was legally) ... would you want it for that situation?
Or even if there was a gun near you to use ... would you use it?
Or, if a cop was nearby, would you ask for his/her assistance (assuming the officer is typically armed)?

Those aren't a collection of choices during the same time frame. I'd like to know the answer to each one individually.

"because I am not in fear of that happening to me" wow. Really? You have NO fear of that ever happening to you? That must be nice. I wish i could feel the same way ... but, my experience supports a much different reality.

Xupthree60 and Sartis ... can you chime in on this also?
there is not many situations i would wish i had a gun. of course i will not say there will never be one cuz there is the chance i will be in a lagit kill or be killed situation. but i dont live in fear of that, and for most situations where a gun is involved i would not want me or anyone around me to have one and want to use it. for example a mugging and bank robbery or something of that nature. i would not want me or anyone near me going all cowboy and getting us shot when we would have not.

but no i do not fear this situation. i of course never know if it will or will not ever happen to me but i will not alter my life or bring a gun into my house endaguring everyone in my house because of a unatual fear that i have this happening.

This is happening right now.. I wonder what the gunman's motive is for shooting up an immigration help center?

Question for conservative's: should illegal immigrants have the right to own a weapon to protect themselves? That should stir the pot a little

thanks for NOT answering the questions/situations ... and continuing to put your own 'spin' on it.

DAMMIT! ARGH .... THIS is what i FEAR.

I'm willing to bet more than 12 people today wished there was an armed individual to counter the killer. Wouldn't it have been nice if a police officer was there at the start of the mayhem?

I'm also betting that there are a few people from that situation today that are considering carrying a weapon now.

I'm really curious to hear about the assailant. Who he was, his background, his interest in carrying out this rediculous task, and if he had any previous issues with the law or violence.

I hope the families of the victims can find peace soon. This, for me, would be one of the worst ways to lose a friend or family member

illegal immigrants should not have rights that are given to our citizens

if they want rights...any US rights, they should get in line and naturalize like everyone else that comes into this country the right way.

lets not go down that path in this thread......way to much fodder to try to chew through on that subject
The 14th Amendment by its express terms is not limited doesn't mention citizens; it refers to persons. That's why the U. S. Supremes ruled that minor children, who are illegal aliens, cannot be denied access to public education through at least the high school level.

There are of course other rights which are only enjoyed by citizens.

considering this is an absolute issue of 'survival' ... everybody should do what they must to DEFEND themselves against harm.

Technically picking up a chair and throwing it at the shooter would have been destruction of property and assault on another. But ... we'd all do it if it meant saving a life ... right?
