thanks for NOT answering the questions/situations ... and continuing to put your own 'spin' on it.
what did i not answer?

so ... I'm confused. Are you saying that the legality of it is keeping you from 'wishing' for a gun ... or you just choose to 'take your chances' that the person won't actually harm you? NO I DO NOT WISH I HAD A GUN, I DO NOT LIVE AS IF I WOULD BE IN THIS SITUATION.

I guess i need to be a little more finite with the situation because i guess the word 'wish' isn't distinct enough. IF you were able to have a gun (presuming it was legally) ... would you want it for that situation? NO I WOULD NOT, I WOULD ONLY GET MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE KILLED I HAVE NO FAIRY TELLS THAT I AM A SUPER HERO.
Or even if there was a gun near you to use ... would you use it? NO, SEE STATEMENT ABOVE
Or, if a cop was nearby, would you ask for his/her assistance (assuming the officer is typically armed)? YES I WOULD.

Those aren't a collection of choices during the same time frame. I'd like to know the answer to each one individually.

"because I am not in fear of that happening to me" wow. Really? YES REALLY.
You have NO fear of that ever happening to you? YES I HAVE NO FEAR OF THAT HAPPENING TO ME. AGAIN I DONT PRETEND THAT THERE IS ZERO CHANCE I WOULD HAPPEN TO ME, JUST THAT I DONT FEEL THE NEED TO FEAR IT.
That must be nice. IT IS NICE IM NOT CRAZY.
I wish i could feel the same way ... I WISH YOU COULD FEEL THAT WAY TOO.
but, my experience supports a much different reality. IM SORRY THAT YOU FEEL THAT WAY. BUT YOUR STORY THAT YOU SAID EARLIER IS ABOUT YOU CONFRONTING AN UNARMED MAN WHO THOUGHT THAT YOU WERE ARMED. NOT A MAD MAN WIELDING A GUN AND THEN YOU DREW YOURS. YOUR STORY SEEMS TO SUPPORT THE IDEA THAT YOU LIKE THE POWER MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. THAT PUTS YOU AWFUL CLOSE TO BEING THE MAD MAN WIELDING A GUN.

Xupthree60 and Sartis ... can you chime in on this also? JUST DID FOR THE SECOND TIME.

DAMMIT! ARGH .... THIS is what i FEAR.

I'm willing to bet more than 12 people today wished there was an armed individual to counter the killer. Wouldn't it have been nice if a police officer was there at the start of the mayhem?

I'm also betting that there are a few people from that situation today that are considering carrying a weapon now.

I'm really curious to hear about the assailant. Who he was, his background, his interest in carrying out this rediculous task, and if he had any previous issues with the law or violence.

I hope the families of the victims can find peace soon. This, for me, would be one of the worst ways to lose a friend or family member
im also willing to bet more than 12 people today wished he was never able to get a hold of a gun to do this... what do you think?

thank you.

It seems as though you are just willing to go through life 'wishing' bad things don't happen (in ALL CAPS no less )

And your 'logic' is a bit strange. If a bad thing does happen you and i'm standing next to you... you don't want me with my gun there to help ... you only hope a person with a gun AND a BADGE there to save you? That is just silly. I guess i could get a badge if that is all want The badge doesn't change much in the situation though.

I'm not a 'certified' mechanic either ... but, most folks are really happy when i stop to help on the side of the road with their car issues (i've done that COUNTLESS times). No power trip for me ... just enjoy the idea of being able to help others.

So ... you keep 'wishing' that life is a 'bowl of cherries' and hope no harm will come to you. I truly wish that is the case.

But ... the reality is there is a lot of gun crime and S2000 seat theft. Waiting for the police to show up is AFTER the FACT. However, a lot of folks here buy seat locks and alarms

Are you suggesting that a concealed weapon is a seat theft deterrent?

I don't hang around my car all day, so I don't think a gun would do much good for me. I think seat locks do the trick.

NO ... that's why i said "But ... the reality is there is a lot of gun crime and S2000 seat theft. Waiting for the police to show up is AFTER the FACT. However, a lot of folks here buy seat locks and alarms "
When you know there is a chance that your seats may get stolen you do something to defend against it.

I've actually encountered situations where arming myself helped to eliminate a threat.

But, my car has yet to have an attempted break-in and yet i'm still considering seat locks.

I guess what i'm getting at is what Brownsound eluded to in an earlier post. The LOGIC of defense of a RISK is common in just about everything we do. There are certain realities that we each must decide how PROBABLE they are and how SEVERE is the outcome.

Like i've said before ... i have had a few encounters with a high risk, violent situation that wasn't even directed towards me. I have been in a club and seen things 'get out of hand'. I just like to have both options available ... 'flight' first and 'fight' second. I just don't like it if 'flight' isn't an option.

Maybe owning a Saturn and living in Winter Haven is risk-free?

The problem with that nugget of wisdom, is that it is an impossibility.... unless you happen to own a certain DeLorean that we don't know about (or unless Saturns can do more than we think... haha!), there is no way that you would be able to accomplish the task of removing that firearm from his hands... NO WAY. The firearm is invented, and even if they are outlawed and banned, they will still exist.

Besides that, do you really think i need to own a "gun" to discharge a bullet for short-range destructive intentions? Anyone in the world who owns a metal lathe would need to now be regulated... how silly.

HOWEVER... you COULD change the circumstances, by placing a firearm in the hands of someone who is able to stand up, and defend more than just themselves.

Every single person i know who holds a Concealed Permit are very good shooters, and i'd trust in a situation like this to defend not only themselves, but everyone else in the situation with us. And it isn't "being a cowboy"... your idealistic views of what the fairytale world would be like without guns clouds your view of what responsible gun owners really are.

Owning a Concealed Permit is a VERY big responsibility, and those who have them know the responsibility and have had proper training... just as proper as those who carry firearms for thier jobs (Law Enforcement)... and most people i know with Concealed Permits fire their guns on a very regular basis, and ANY shot they do is FAR MORE accurate than your statement of "shooting off into a crowd, and luckily hitting what they want".... that isn't luck... that is skill.

It is the same type of skill that allows you to drive fast, and know your way around a car... do you see me sitting here calling you (and anyone else who races or autocrosses) a fool behind the wheel, and the only way you are driving fast is you aimlessly drive your car around a parking lot full of cones like a drunken maniac, and SOMEHOW manage not to hit any of them? (although jokingly, that could describe how a few of us drive on track, myself included... haha!)...

No... you have skills, you are comfortable behind the wheel, and you are a good driver. In that same way, people who practice shooting are WAY more accurate and controlled than you are giving them credit for.

IMPORTANT: Here is a question for you.... do you think that would be fair for someone who just had their kid killed by a speeder to go after anyone who drives fast as a hobby or a profession, and put them all into the same group as highway speeders and punks behind cars that are too fast for their skillset? What if that person came along trying to ban ALL racing, because it encourages driving fast, because some dude driving his truck too fast down the highway killed their kid? What would you say about that?

I understand the concept of an armed citizen stopping a would-be attacker with a pistol. But in all honesty, do you guys feel that if everyone walked the streets with guns (even for the "right" reasons), that you would see a DECREASE in the number of murders and/or aggravated assault charges? Hard for me to believe.
