thank you ... i just wanted to know if my mindset was so far off compared to others. I truly appreciate your candor.

Now to anwer your questions. YES ... i do fear getting 't-boned' every day. I have been in two major accidents which neither was my fault. The most recent was last summer in the S2000 and i can assure you there was NOTHING that logically warranted any concern of increased risk right up until the car actually struck me. Even the driver of the other vehicle looked plainly at me and said she "never even saw" me!

If you think an automobile accident is so without concern ... then you are truly in denial of so much established data and statistics. The state REQUIRES you to have insurance ... it is that definite.

I do worry about not waking up in the morning and the house catching on fire EVERY DAY. Do i worry so much that it causes me to lose sleep? Not really. But, i make efforts and take precautions to limit those risks in a personal balance with my invidual liberties.

If i was less cautious about my transportation ... i would easily drive a sport bike or Ariel Atom. But, even i understand the risks life deals me due to no error of my own.

But, the biggest difference in those kinds of examples is the lack of 'mens rea' before 'actus reus'. The driver of the car did not INTEND to harm me when she struck me. The electrician did not conspire with the bugs to wait to cause the electrical short in the house. Those were without INTENT. So, when an individual intends on harm ... that is when typical 'precautions' are no longer valid and it is no longer forgivable.

I wish you years of safe and worry-free travels my friend For mine have not been as fortunate
Ahh thank you, good point! I am not a nihilist in any way, so I do take a lot of precautions. I wear my seatbelt, I drive as safely as I think I should, lock my doors, etc.

We all try to strike a balance.. being smart about things will pay huge dividends to longetivity and happiness.

Combat is combat ... regardless of the technology. If you choose to be 'meek' ... so be it. Just don't force me to perish with you
I don't feel like I am in a battle, though!

Your answers are intriguing.. let me ask you out of my own curiosity, how religious are you?

Jesus was a carpenter's son who galavanted with a hooker....that is about as god fearing as I will ever get LOL

I bet you did not think an agnostic could be a conservative

I think we have come to the conclusion of this thread.

I for one have read enough to pretty much know that those of you that do not want to own a gun should definately NOT own them.

you speak of your own reality and that seems fine to me. My reality is far different. and like I said before it is not about fear and I take offense at the continued use of that term.

I do not fear anything. I am in a constant state of calm preparedness, ready to process and adapt to my environment the best way I can in any given situation. that's the way i like it and I still have not heard an argument in support of anyone, EVER to have the power or right to take that away from me.

i can assure you ... the agressive and strong (with ill intent) will always target the meek and weak. It is a law of nature that transcends every culture, society, and species with historical data to support it. Do you agree?

If there was a 'religion' that sums up my lifestyle ... it would be that of the Native American Indians. It is a mindset of respect for the earth and never being thankful enough for its beauty and generosity. Here is a phrase that helps: "We love and keep Mother Earth and all things on her. We respect and honor our ancestors, the Elders and each other. "
