its about liberty and freedom. You either have it in your heart or you don't.
Arming yourself on a daily basis sounds neither liberating nor free.

[QUOTE=PrimoGen,Mar 30 2009, 02:25 PM] I would rather me and my family die on our feet than live on our knees

its about liberty and freedom.

if it is -20 degrees outside do you wear a coat to protect yourself from dying?

if you go hiking do take with you the ability to either eat food or secure food for your survival?

Do you make choices at any point in your life to protect yourself from any dangers (sunscreen, ropes when rock climbing, seatlbelts etc)?

This the same thing. I am making a concious effort to protect myself from possible dangers. I am not forcing you to carry a gun, so dont force me not to, nor villify me from choosing to be prudent.

Like I said before we will be the very people you race to get behind cover next to when the shizzle hits the fizzle. I promise you this.

[QUOTE=Brownsound,Apr 1 2009, 11:05 AM]What would I do?

First, I am not old enough to buy handgun ammo for 10 more days, and have gone 21 years without the legal ability to protect myself in the same way you can.

so ... I'm confused. Are you saying that the legality of it is keeping you from 'wishing' for a gun ... or you just choose to 'take your chances' that the person won't actually harm you?

I guess i need to be a little more finite with the situation because i guess the word 'wish' isn't distinct enough. IF you were able to have a gun (presuming it was legally) ... would you want it for that situation?
Or even if there was a gun near you to use ... would you use it?
Or, if a cop was nearby, would you ask for his/her assistance (assuming the officer is typically armed)?

Those aren't a collection of choices during the same time frame. I'd like to know the answer to each one individually.

"because I am not in fear of that happening to me" wow. Really? You have NO fear of that ever happening to you? That must be nice. I wish i could feel the same way ... but, my experience supports a much different reality.

Xupthree60 and Sartis ... can you chime in on this also?
No, the legality is not, I said I will continue the same way even when I can.

You are asking me what my ideal situation would be if I were in that position. No, ideally my fate would not be in the hands of the criminal, I would want a gun or weapon or whatever for that situation. If there was a gun nearby, in THAT situation, I would use it in some capacity. The answer is yes to all your situations where the criminal means harm no matter what.

I have no fear of that happening to me on a day to day basis. Do you live in fear of getting t-boned at every intersection, or are you fearful every night when you go to sleep that you might not wake up, or your house might catch on fire? I choose not to carry a gun for many reasons, and my reality is just as real as yours.

It looks like we are getting close to a conclusion here. I don't think it makes sense to carry a weapon or anything else to prevent something very slim from happening. Fear does not rule my life, in comparison to you I may seem naive, or an idealist, but to me it's logical.

It seems like most of you carrying have had close encounters and have some deal of fear fueling your decisions. This is a historic trait in social conservatism (whether its related or not). But you feel it's your right and it gives you peace of mind.

I think it has bred a sickness, that which the entire thread was started on, of sadism and pleasure that has permeated our entire society, though.
