You'll save 1000 lives wearing a helmet, carrying a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher before you get the chance to unload your .45 into some troubled underprivileged kids chest.

Why not that instead?
Yet we have no helmet laws for motorcycles but we do for bicycles??

It seems funny to me that the people who chose not to own a gun always want to take away everyone else's right to do so.

no problem, i will defend you to the death, just dont take away my right to defend by stripping me of my ability to bear arms. in fact, make it legal to carry in plain sight and i would be more than willing to comply. I will gladly accept your thanks after I save the life you chose not to...in this case your own....dont you see the flaw, inherent, in that thinking from you?
When I said group of people, I said anyone. Myself, a fellow civilian, whoever. To protect whoever needs protection. I am speaking, in point, to the event which occurred yesterday at a NURSING HOME. 7 elderly people were murdered as well as 1 nurse.

If the man had a bat, or rocks, or a stick, there's a good chance myself or ANYONE ELSE would have tried their best to stop him.

But no, he had a gun. And 8 died. Yesterday.

and if others had guns they would have been able to defend themselves. if the man knew there was a good likelyhood of many guns wielded by many people in that home (nurses, orderlies, security, old fogeys etc) he would have never even considered it.

you cant bring a knife to a gun fight

unfortunately we live in the era of guns therefore we need to protect ourselves from guns...to do this effectively we need to carry guns

You'll never be able to keep guns out of criminals hands... even if everyone went all halo-wearing (and no, i don't mean the game), and did everything to take every last gun off the street, people would still have guns... and if they didn't have guns, they'd have pipe bombs filled with nails, or they'd have any other type of weaponry you can think of.... because they don't care about gun laws, or any other laws....

Do you think the guy that walked into the nursing home cared about any law at all?

The only way to strike and defend against an attack is to be able to strike as powerfully as the one attacking you. The only way the Nursing Home incident could have been stopped is by having someone there armed as well. It likely wouldn't have stopped someone from dying, but maybe 8 didn't have to leave this world.

Guns exist, and there is no de-inventing them... it sucks, but thats the way it is.

Me personally, i am armed at home and at my place of business. For what? who knows... but i feel better knowing that IF someone decided to break down my door and attack either Heather or Myself, at least we have a fighting chance to defend ourselves. She knows how to shoot as well. We aren't "gun crazy nuts" that are sitting around with our fingers twitching just waiting for the opportunity to shoot someone.... no... we're just being proactive. Every day in the news i hear about another home invasion, where no one was able to do anything to protect themselves, and the people die, or are raped, or brutally beaten.

Sure, i'd love to think that i live in a world of cherries and cream, and should have no worries against any of this, and can live my life unarmed, and pounding down congress's steps telling them that everyone else should be unarmed as well.... but that simply can't and won't happen.

No "LAW" will keep the lawless from arming themselves to get whatever it is they want. And i'll be damned if i'm going to sit on my hands and pretend to live in a la-la land where violence doesn't happen. The world is different these days, and adaptation to that difference will be required to survive in the long-run.

<~~~ Ramblings of a man that was robbed at Knifepoint in a bathroom at Orlando International Airport... one of the seemingly "Safer" places to be in this day and age, wouldn't you think? Well, it wasn't.

On May 25, the Sunday before Memorial Day, police were called to Players Bar and Grill located in Winnemucca, Nevada on a report of multiple shots fired. By the time they arrived, the incident was over.

Reports indicated that the shooter entered the bar and began firing at patrons reportedly due to an ongoing family dispute. At least two men were killed during the initial volley, after which the shooter stopped to reload. After he began shooting again, another bar patron, who had a ccw licence, drew his concealed handgun and killed the shooter.

The CCW holder was taken into custody, but released after Humboldt County District Attorney Russell Smith determined it was justifiable homicide.

Had this happened in Ohio, it is very likely that others would have died since Ohio bans ccw in bars even if you're not legally impaired. The mass murderer ignored all gun control laws put into place to supposedly stop him and carried out his crime anyway. Who knows how many more would have died by the time police were able to respond and stop him themselves. It was only because a law abiding citizen had the training and the means to stop the crime that more innocent lives we not lost.

Disarming citizens does not make them safer, it makes it easier to commit crimes against them.

I support the right to bear arms but we don't live in "The Wild West' either.
