I drove through Ocala once, I thought it was a nice town.

 

St Augustine.. sounds like a wonderful place to host an event.. i'd try to make it.....

hell, i'd toss in a couple pig's.. have a pit bbq.. ok, a couple pit bbq's..

been to many events... SFL Supermeet was my first... CFL Supermeet my second... been to Dragon meets and driven far an wide...

the truth is ... just about everyone has 'driven through it' as there are so many major highways that route through here. Strange.
I think Ocala is central was for a host of reasons ... one being just naturally in the center of the state (350mi/5.5hrs to Miami or Pensacola) and the other being a substantial rail system at one time.


It's kinda quiet ... and it's why i like it. But, ya'll feel free to come sit a' spell

 

Primo you bring up all the points that I really wanted to hear.

Aswell I must admit Ocala is a very geographically central location.

I myself have no issue with traveling for a statewide meet. The only times I could see traveling distance becoming a factor is when outside factors such as working the next day wouldn't sound like a good idea after a few hour car ride.

I didn't say that we needed to flip the state upside down. I just wish to see the community improve.

This place is on the front side of a newer indoor flea-market. Some good paved parking and resources for food and facilities. Hotels are close by as well. Gainesville is a 30 minute drive from here.

 

Well I just retired the cricket. RS THANK YOU for opening a dialog with Rob! You have constructively addressed concerns of your community and that is appreciated! I hope the other CO’s will participate constructively and give their input as well but history has shown this to be hopeless. Again THANKS RS!!

Righteous Spec has valid points. I did not want to sound overly heated or condescending in my replies either....

Here is where the rubber meets the road:

The past 2 attempts at a super meet over this past year have met with utter disdain and disaster. Toes were stepped on, feelings were hurt, and many vag's had a lot of sand in them over the whole thing (mine included).

Barry and I (being transitional CO's at the time) tried twice to do something. The first one was a scheduling and timing problem on our end, the second was utter sabotage....IDK what happened but there was a clear lack of care/support....whatever.

I stated...point blank, in the last 6 page discussion on the matter, that it was up to somebody else to plan the next supermeet. We have tried to produce something and have been met with abject hostility from just about every direction.

So a couple of months have gone by and nothing has been said or done on the issue.....just like I said it would. Nobody wants to put forth the effort but, they sure as hell have something to say when someone else does anything.

Am I still bitter? You betcha! A group of dedicated people (including myself) spent the better half of a year trying to figure out a way to do something great only to have it blow up in our faces. We had agreements and contracts...those contacts and those resources are now SPENT!!! They are burnt bridges. We went in professionals and came out looking like kindergarteners.....I don’t operate that way and neither do the people around me. This last attempt we tried taught me a lot of things, about myself and the FL community.


Now it is time to put up or shut up.

I stand absolutely ready to offer ANY help I can to ANYONE willing to plan a supermeet. I have what I feel are great ideas and an intimate knowledge of logistics, planning and over-all experience to offer. There are several people in the Tampa area that share the same level of eagerness and professionalism. I will help as much as I can, but it’s your gig. I am done being the whipping post for people unwilling to do anything themselves.



Bottom Line:
This thread exists because people want a Supermeet. I am ready to dig in and make it happen.
