i have to admit i was a bit nervous on saturday. not for myself, but for the drivers in front of me that must have been doing 115+ on those back roads. i was literally left in the dust doing 95 which still wasn't safe for those conditions. very lucky!

i think this thread is a little out of hand.

i see scooters good intentions here. id say i know him fairly well and know hes more than likely not just being dramatic. i can see how it could be viewed that way but im pretty sure its not his intent.

since it seems there is more mudslinging than learning going on in this thread, i suggest we close this one and have a CO open a new one where rules for group drives governing this section of florida are plainly posted and laid out and sticky them to the top so there is no question as to what they are.

also, for those who break said rules on group drives, etc...there should be listed some sort of 'consequence'. i.e.: passing = sit out bext meet.

it sounds childish, i know, but obviously this is what needs to be done in order to get everyone on the same page.

Scott, I wish you would take some of your own advice and list my entire post when quoting me.

I am trying to figure out what you wanted me to do about the situation. I did not see the event, I did not see the events afterward, and all I had to go on was your report. What do you want me to do????

Should I have called him out to the center of the parking lot and kicked him out of the drive?

Should I have told him he is no longer welcome?

He made a mistake (his first one as far as I know). Until I find a reason to excommunicate this person, he is still welcome in my book.

If that causes you to never attend a meeting of ours or leave the site completely, then that is YOUR choice. You are good guy and I would hate to see that happen, but it is ultimately up to you.

My responsibility in this matter was to make sure he was aware that his actions were not well received and, through talking with the non-s2ki parties involved and everyone else, I determined that enough was said on the subject.

The rest of the drive was flawless.

I think you are over-reacting. Be upset about it (you have every right to be so, I still AGREE WITH YOU). Discuss it freely on this board, this is good information and an important topic to explore. But, do not rail against me, Jim, Scott or anyone else besides the person involved.

Your problem is with them.

Passing on Florida roads are much, much different than in the mountains. WITH CAUTION AND CARE our group of cars could easily pass any slower traffic properly and safely if every one took their time and waited for the CORRECT opportunity to do so.

If one person took a dangerous opportunity, you should take it up with them. Dont chastise the community and its leaders because one person colors out side the lines.

I take a fair amount of pride in the fact that none of the events I have planned, and/or been involved with, have had anything beyond mechanical failure. I also take a certain amount of pride away from the way people perceive me as a "safe" driver. To the point of comedy at my expense, people regard me as a person who does not push the limits of this car. I am trusted with many other people cars without question. Ask around.

You called me out personally so now I am reacting. Am I upset...a little. I am a responsible person. You want to question how I handled the situation, I suggest the next time you see something you don

For the last time ...

PrimoGen: This is NOT a matter of whether or not you committed to correct the problem. This is a matter of you using a statement that practically justifys an unsafe act (and a similar one from Jvrabel). That statement does not distinguish the act as being truly unsafe:
"people make sometimes less than perfect decisions while playing catch-up".

Less than perfect is not acceptable when it comes to these situations. Suggesting that it is ... shows tolerance.

Had ALL the drivers and passengers of the other vehicles involved in the 2 situations taken the time to follow him back and confronted him about this ... what would have been different? Maybe they would have called the police ... or maybe they would have enforced it in their own way? The passenger of the Ford Explorer made it perfectly clear that bodily harm was his intentions. Had that happened how would this conversation look especially including your statement?
... what if NOBODY followed him back or mentioned a word of this ... would it be just as emphatic? Would he repeat the same manuever on the second leg? I think everyone can predict the behavior and outcome.

Secondly: The ability to use that portion of your response is also not the issue. Comparing it to mine ... which refered to making a personal decision that affects ME is completely different. Yours, especially because of the respect you've earned and CO status, has a much greater impact compared to mine. My quote of possibly making it my last thread won't impact the innocent drivers on the highway ... yours can (and will).

However ... i only wish I could be 'melodramatic' ..."Melodramas can be distinguished from tragedy by the fact that it is open to having a happy ending" ... happy endings is what i stand for (sorry ... a little humor there)

I'm really sorry this has escalated to this point. Unfortunately I really needed to know the feeling as a whole from this community. If everyone feels that your thoughts on this matter are correct then it answers my questions and concerns and I will make the choice that fits me. I have every right to make that choice especially when it is a personal decision ... and every right to pose the question or circumstance to poll the group. I will be saddened, even after I have left this community, if I hear of an incident where some innocent does become injured due to this kind of behavior. But, I will feel better knowing I had made an effort to discourage it.
From the first statement I made it known how I felt and I may be overly sensitive to this situation. The only reason why I have not just walked away from this is because I've seen and heard others support this premise. I didn't want to be a posterchild for anything. I was only looking for clarity and to maybe help by sharing some of my personal experiences with this type of situation.

My apologizes for the distress this has caused. However, I KNOW that the topic deserves it ... nothing is more uncomfortable than being an injured party through the carelessness of another.

Have a safe holiday everyone.

so what actually happened where everyone involved had to stop on the side of the road, discuss this, and lead to threats of bodily harm?
