That's scary about the Advil. I have been taking Tylenol (sp?) PM every night for a year to help me sleep. If I don't take it, I don't sleep, so I kind of don't have an option.

You need to be careful with any of those PM type pain relivers.

Advil and Aleve both are known to cause stomach bleeding while tylenol is known to damage the liver (especially if you drink heavily)

You can get the same sleep ingredient (diphenhydramine) in Benadryl or generic equivalnt without the pain reliever. A safer (IMO) option.

Herbals such as valerian root extract will also promote relaxation and sleep. I have personally found a combination of melatonin and valerian root to be quite effective.

Disclaimer: I am not a physician but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. I do work in the biotech field.

^ I was going to recommend Benadryl. It is great as a sleep aid while clearing your sinuses! And you don't wake up groggy. But I don't know that I'd take anything every day. And no, I'm not a doc, either, and I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. Just personal experience.

As my doctor says: 1-2 drinks a day is medicinal, any more than that is recreational.

My mother changed doctors when she was 85 years old. She asked the dr. if she should stop having two burbon cocktails that she had every night. The dr. looked at here and said "at your age don't stop doing anything you have been doing" I pray that I make it to 87 too.
