Looks like I win the prize. I had four feet of Escambia Bay in my house. I have spent the past three weeks cleaning up and drying out.

I almost left the S2000 in the garage during the storm. I had a boat and two daily drivers to get to higher ground. I left my 1972 Porsche 914 in the garage on jackstands thinking that if we got water it wouldn't get into the car up on stands. Wrong. Water almost to the headliner. The 914 is toast. I bought a set of jackstands before the storm to put the S2000 on but I did not have enough room to work the jack handle because the 914 was too close to the Honda so I decided to make a second trip back to get the S2K. It rode out the storm at my Mother's house in the front yard. Minor water leaks around the top but no damage. You might say the 914 saved the S2K. Bad news--no insurance on the 914. I was restoring it and had not driven it or had a tag on it in over a year.

Sorry to hear of the damage. Will homeowners insurance cover the 914?

Homeowners insurance will not cover flood damage to garaged cars. Flood insurance will not cover garaged cars. FEMA will help in some instances, but since this car was not registered or driven they will not help. I have three cars I can drive and the purpose of help from FEMA is just to insure you have transportation.

I had recently applied online for collector car insurance on the Porsche, but was turned down because of the non-stock motor. I'll have to eat this one.

That sucks. Is there any hope of salvaging what's left?

Jim, I'm very sorry to hear about the house and the 914. I'm sure you had many hours of work into that little car. I hope the house will soon be back to normal. There are so many people with so many sad stories from this storm.

If you drive down Avalon Boulevard near Milton, on the east side of the road you'd see about a mile of cut trees in a huge pile. It's an awesome sight!

At the north end of the pile is a huge chipper which is making another huge pile of chips of the trees. Talk about job security!
