I was just wondering if there are any local tracks around Tallahassee, road tracks, auto-x, etc. I know of a couple drag tracks that are a few hours away, but I'd rather take the car out for what it's made for, road racing.

 

Look up the Dixie Region SCCA. They should be able to tell you what's around. You might have to go as far as Roebling Road, Road Atlanta, or Talladega (TGPR) for a road course. Carolina Motorsports Park is well worth the drive also. South Florida has some great tracks too.

 

Yeah, I grew up around Sebring so I've seen my share of great road racing, and done some as well

Thanks for the tip, I looked tup Dixie Region and there are some SoloII SCCA races at South Georgia Motorsports Park (where we go drag racing), it's not too far from Tallahassee at all, maybe 2-3 hours. They have a ten-event schedule that starts April 29th (can't make the first, I have to be there for my college graduation!) but good luck to anyone who does enter!

 

Zack - I think there is one in the Birmingham, AL area.... Other than that, there is not much around here. There used to be a drag strip in Gadsden county, but it went under, but there has been MUCH talk lately about reopening it and charging per run.

As far as auto-x, I think there is something in the Thomasville / Valdosta area, and maybe something in the Panama City, FL / Dothan, AL areas. I thought there was a track day at Road Atlanta at some point, but I cannot remember when.

I was looking into it as well a few months back, but when I figured I would have to drive a few hours for anything it was not really worth it.

I forgot about Gainesville. There's a road course there in the woods / swamp behind the drag strip. It's far from being one of my favorites but I have run on it a few times. It's got lot's of off camber turns.
