It was so much fun the first time
S2000 seats get stolen often because they look cool, are easy to access, and bolt right into Civics and Integras. If you install aftermarket seats in your S those three things would still apply, so I'm guessing they have just as good a chance of getting stolen as the stockers. Unless they're crappy APC Pep Boys seats or something...
I apologize if I was harsh, but this seat theft drives me crazy. My S was a victim of a failed attempt (slashed top only) and it pissed the hell out of me, so I can imagine how the OP feels.
I don't like the suggestion of leaving your seats unprotected to make it easier for the thief for fear of vandalism. That's like teaching your kids to automatically walk up to the school bully every morning to hand him their lunch money. There are lots of reasons why we all should make our seats (or anything else for that matter) as hard as possible to steal:
1) Most of the times seats don't get slashed anyway. Usually they either take other things (which they probably would've taken anyway) or just leave.
2) If they do get slashed, I'd still rather have slashed seats than no seats at all. Much cheaper to fix.
3) You're not helping a thief. This is by far the main reason for me. Stop making it easy for the scumbags. I'd rather slash the seats myself to pieces than let some scumbag make $500 of my car.
4) You're discouraging further theft. You can bet that whoever stole the OP's seats is now a happy thief and will strike again. If that thief has 2 or 3 failed thefts in a row, he might just reconsider messing with our cars. Which will eventually lead to...
5) ...lower insurance premiums for all or us.
And the old alarm excuse "if a thief wants your car, he'll get it" is just a cope out. It may be true, but it only goes for professional thieves. These are stupid kids stealing our seats. You can bet that they will look for every possible S without an alarm before going near an armed one. My S has been sleeping outside for 4 years since the previous owner bought it and the seats are still there. I only got a slashed top far (and I have reasons to believe that it was vandalism, not a theft attempt). Of all the stolen seat cases I've heard of (and I've heard of A LOT), not one has been on an S with alarm and seat locks. Not a single one. And as far as no one reacting to your alarm because of all the false alarms, that's OK. Only one person needs to react if my alarm goes off... me.
BTW, I know this is not the So. FL forum. I don't see why my post was "strong". I didn't insult or ridicule anyone. Yeah, it was touchy since it placed fault on the unfortunate victim, but I think I made a valid point about an issue that needs to be addressed if we all want to enjoy S2k ownership. My apologies if anyone was offended

seat locks = sage advice
look into the Viper 791 or newer alarm system for a good option for alarm with responder technology.
mine about 3 years ago was about 600 bucks for the main alarm, radar dome attachment (to alarm the car with the top down) and the install.

X4DLuvOfSpeedX: you initial response was a little knee jerk in the reaction but it was a valid point. People like to jump on strong statements especially when it brings their competency into question.
You could make the same points without being as stand-offish but I would not worry too much about it.
a little tough love never hurt anybody, but I would make steps to be maybe a little more diplomatic

I just hope the thieves don't resort to just taking the the entire car now. I think someone has said it before ... who actually stops a tow truck and asks for documentation about towing a car? Even with an alarm going off ... most people presume the tow truck operator to be legit and won't even give a second glance ... even with an alarm sounding.
Also ... this may cause an interesting response by our insurance companies. They may begin to raise our rates. So, do we all pre-pay now for security devices like seat locks and alarms in an effort to reduce the numbers of claims. Or, are there already enough claims for the insurance company to still justify a rate increase? And would this be based on risk area where there is a history of occurences?
I guess we'll all wait and see.

My insurance agent (allstate) specifically asked me if the car (s2000)would be garaged, and said it made a difference for rates. Not sure if it does or not but this is what I was told.
Where you live makes a huge difference in your rates. Not only for potential theft but also for traffic volume and the potential for an accident. When my son went to college 2 years ago his rates went down by about 35% (Hillsborough county vs. Volusa county)
IMO the only person the alarm has to scare off is the thief, from what I have heard most of these thefts have happened overnight, so if an alarm is going off at 2 AM most thiefs are going to get the hell out of the area when an alarm goes off. A thief is going to take what is easy and low risk, an alarm presents a valid risk.

With as many of us on this forum that have been victims of these assh.ole thieves, it should be a well known and documented fact now that if you leave your s2000 outside unprotected, it will be targeted. The HT doesn't stop them...they stole my wheels instead. I just discovered friday that someone tried to break into my car while it was parked at UCF...they damaged the window molding on the driver's side where they used what ever tool it was they had to get into the cab, then proceeded to screw up the finish on the inside of the door where most cars have the interior lock/unlock pin. Fortunately for me, whoever tried to steal my car was a f.ucking moron and doesn't know where the unlock is located inside the door
I swear to god, the next person I even see look at my f.ucking car is getting shot in the face. Quote me.

That sucks ... i think it may be time to set up a decoy of our own and start giving them a real reason to think twice before touching our cars ... nothing else really seems to work (to stopping theft in general)
