Wilcardtrd's interpretation!
Wildcardtrd's interpretation of our event!!!!!
"Lets see...Barry and I rolled out in the 550i first with Barry driving and I was navigating...I had never even been in a BMW let alone drive one before, so I decided to just ride shotty the first go 'round. The 550 was a very well composed, torquey car. I loved it. Next was my turn, and I got into the 650i, one of my favorite cars to drool over whenever I spot one. Barry...poor, poor Barry, decided to ride with me. I got behind the wheel of this beautiful machine and made her my bitch. The limits of the 650i are pretty high, and I was able to dial them in pretty quickly with some aggressive off ramp maneuvers and throttle step outs leading to a would be jail sentence of 100 in a 45 in too short a timeframe to have even noticed...oops
The 650i has an amazing sounding engine...the exhaust subdues it way too much...I would gut the stock broker weenie exhaust and open her up. I loved the growl of that car. I hated it's brakes though...steady brake pressure resulted in increased clamping strength. I preferred the more linear brakes in the Z4 and the 335i.
Next I drove the Z4, following Barry in the 335i. The car has good torque, as my mad driving skills made keeping up with the 335i less of a waste of time and more of an exercise in proper driving lines I was impressed with the overall feel of the car, but you could definately feel the level of quality difference between the Z and any of the other Bimmers...it just wasn't as refined. I liked it.
The 760Li. How the hell they let me drive a $120,000 BMW is beyond me, but I can tell you this...that V12 is silky smooth. The car oozes with a sophisticated elegance that only a proper chauffeur could appreciate. The heft of the car is apparent during acceleration only...it feels as if it needs the V12 to get out of it's own way. Cornering and braking are unaffected by the 5000 lb gravitational force of the car. It brakes with efortless ease, and it corners like a 5 series, taking up 25 mph "nanny" corners at 45 without any noticeable push. Stepping out the V12, like all BMW's, requires the disablement of DTC (a push of button), sport mode on, and throttle input a full second before you want the car to rotate...the electronic throttle is slightly annoying when you demand power now...you have to anticipate when you want the power to peak if you ever intend on drifting any of these new cars
The 335i is a different beast than any of the others I got to drive. You hit the gas, you hit your head on the headrest and rocket off like it's nobody's business following you. Turn in is superb, DTC off makes for easy drifting, and throttle response was very, very impressive. I've never driven a factory boosted car before, and I was not let down. The suspension is very capable, even after Barry launched it skyward off a rogue speed bump
I didn't get to drive the M3 or the Alpina B7, but despite that, I had an amazing day. I've always liked BMW's and respected them for what they were...my level of respect for these cars is now a few ticks higher than what it was before. "
We are definitely doing this next year Nate!
