Glad we could give you some support last night. It was sad seeing your car in that shape. You held your emotions in pretty well.

We did change the oil on install day last week. everything seemed normal throught the week. We where thinking that the oil filter gasket blew but really did not know.

Was the old one re-used or was a new one put on?

Yes we put a new filter on.... but Duane thinks maybe the oil gasket from the old one came off and may have still been on. Just weird since I drive it daily.

The car will be getting parted out. Guess we'll have to have a tear apart party once the garage is cleared out for the S to go into it!!!

Thanks SmagsS2k for posting the pics.... I hadn't really seen the damage myself yet. I couldn't look at it last nite!

Great shots though.

And I am sure we will be putting fire extinguishers in all of our cars now!!!

Why do you ask - what goes (can go) pop after an oil change?

I'm w/ SmagsS2K on carrying a fire ext.

Sorry about your car Debbie - glad we could help get it home tho'
If the oil filter wasn't tighten enough, it will loosen up and pop right off (hence the popping noise). That is why people torque the oil filter on. If the old gasket was still on, it would have not created a proper seal and oil would have been leaking the moment you started the engine after the oil change (trust me, I've seen it happen twice to others). Not to point fingers, but who put on the new oil filter?

The double gasket shouldnt be the culprit here, as Keith said its noticable quite quickly. Although we did have a guy come through Ronsicks for an Oil change and made it all the way home before it started leaking.

Unfortunately I don't know how Duane tightened it. But it doesn't really matter now.
It's a loss and will be parted out. Hopefully another S will be in the future for me; but not for awhile. For now maybe a CRX or a '82 Honda CVCC!!! Heck I just need wheels at this point!!!

The CRX ia a nice suv! Good space but not a huge automibile and decent gas mileage for its size.
