Default black tape!

Does anybody know the reason for the black tape around the frame of the windsheild and will it cause any harm if you remove it?

John, i know there were posts on this subject...just do a search...are you thinking of removing yours? If you are, be careful b/c i've read about it taking little parts of paint up with it when removed. Not sure how the yellow will look...

Dude! The tape is what holds the windshield in place! Removing it might cause it to leak and void your warranty! It's like someone pulling the loose thread from your shirt or sweater that causes the whole thing to unravel.

Nah. Just kidding. I've read about this tape in the main forum though I've not found it on my car yet. Perhaps it's an undocumented option only available on certain models.

The tape very well may be part of the windscreen sealing system... Why remove it??

The tape is there to keep the windshield frame from visually distracting from the lines of the car. Black tends to make objects look smaller, and a lighter colored frame would "grab" your eye, leading your focus up the windshield instead of following the lines of the car.

And no, I never BS.

Modifry is correct. Black cars do not have the tape.
