Hi, I'm new to the forums. Was wondering if anyone had any insight or could help me. I am currently driving from Texas to Maryland and had to stop at a hotel because my car started acting funny. When I would reach around 4000-45000 rpms in 6th gear my car would start to shake and the rpms would bounce up and down. At first I thought it was because it was really windy but it kept doing that and only got worse. I pulled over to go to a gas station and the car just stopped. When I would restart it the exhaust was a more low pitched sound and the only way to get it to drive was to rev it up to higher rpms. After roughly 25 minutes of waiting at the gas station I started it back up and it ran fine. I got back on the highway and then the check engine light came on and it seemed like the engine completely shut off. I pulled over then finally got it to a hotel in newnan Georgia. Was wondering if anyone has had this problem or would be willing to help me out. I'm still 500 miles from home so I really need to figure something out soon. Thank you

 

Thinking it's a problem with the coils. Gonna try to find a pep boys tomorrow

If you would compare the exhaust note to a subaru (WIth the low note), that probably means you are running on 3 cylinders. I am thinking you are on the right track with the coil pack.
