It's not that you can't split component cables (or any other kind of cables), but at the split you're going to lose some signal. SD channels are more forgiving of this lose, but HD channels are less. It's typical for a two way split for you to lose about -3.5 of signal per split. It may or may not make a difference, depending on how many splits you have before the box.
