Have you guys seen the model by LG that plays both HD DVD and Blu ray?
The adult industry is, as Chris stated, starting with HD-DVD for costs and the fact that HD-DVD had been out longer. The weight of said industry is not as heavy as it was during the VHS days. P0rn will not be a deciding factor.
BD will get a push from the Disney titles such as the Pirates series. We have both formats at the house, but we prefer HD-DVD titles. The majority of them seem a tad better in picture and sound quality. That said, the original recording has a ton to do with the transfer and is not necessarily indicative of either tecnology.
Bill mentioned that a good upconverting player was good enough for him and I agree in most cases. We went from an old dvd player to the Toshiba over a year ago. It is amazing when upconverting films like Armageddon and such. That standard def movie looks better than the HD version of Perfect Storm. Go figure.
I currently do not live in Las Vegas. Why? In the early-to-mid '90's, one of the educational channels showed a segment on how Las Vegas was going to run out of water by the year 2000. I believed the possibility existed and decided to not put my family's welfare on the line, despite Vegas being a hotbed for what I did(do). Lesson learned: ain't nothing done until it's done. Neither BD or HD know what the hell the future has to offer.

Remember when we all thought Nintendo was on the verge of failure, and that the PS3 would rank a glorious 1st place among consoles?

I see Matrix Trilogy comes out this Tuesday.

I really don't want a Blu-Ray player primarily for that series.
