But there are most definitely differences in the players themselves. I find the PS3 not that good as a BD player when compared to my Toshiba A1- a first-gen player(HD-DVD).

It all comes down to the player and not the format as both provide the same possibilities.

Adding some fuel to the fire.... the numbers are in from Black Friday and according to Nielson VideoScan First Alert:

Blu Ray outsold HD-DVD by a huge margin: 72.6% of high-definition discs purchased by consumers were Blu-ray and just 27.4% were HD DVD, in spite of a number of very low-cost HD-DVD players being offered by retailers, including a sub $100 model.

waaay too damn expensive. Now i'm just waiting for the after xmas deals

I need a new tv for downstairs too though. When I bought the house, I more-or-less stopped buying audio equipment... well except my def tech front speakers and sub
