Soon HD DVD will cease to exist IMO.
Quoted so as to be used against you at later time. I would like, however, a more definitive projection of "soon."

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but the quality of the transfer for 2001:A Space Odyssey is just friggin' amazing, especially considering how old this movie is.

You can see all the "problems" with the original (i.e. bad backdrops) but overall it's really amazing the level of detail and quality of filming... It WAS originally shot in 70mm, if I'm not mistaken, so that helps.

Again,

Although I'm quite put-off by robot movies, Transformers was quite visually satisfying. Spidey 3 was okay.

So what do you guys think the $99 Black Friday HD-DVD players are going to do to the market? Think it will motivate some fence sitters?

Can't comment. I do know that I read many companies aren't witing until Black Friday to offer great sales. I really despise the commercialization of Christmas.

And with regards to HD vs. BD, quantity doesn't make up for lack of quality.

Well, Paramount was a huge win for HD-DVD. I've already noticed a huge improvement in the quality of the releases. We're actually getting some blockbuster hits now!

I know it's still too early to call the game, but I love rooting for the underdog. The $99 players are going to get HD-DVD into the hands of a lot of people who had been waiting for BD and HD to duke it out. Depending on how many units are allocated, I hope they have the media production stepped up to handle the increase in sales that will be sure to follow.
