I like the plywood subfloor, nice grain pattern. When does the wood floor go down?

Nice cabinets

Ok, this is seriously messed up... Got a non-itemized estimate back from the electrician... $11,000...

You've GOT to be kidding me. I've got so much work right now I can't afford to spend time dealing with him, so the wife is going to be getting other estimates and talking to this guy. I don't know how, but he managed to add 7 additional circuits to the place...

We NEED to have a couple of things done right away, at the minimum so that the project can proceed. The rest will have to wait for other estimates and perhaps a scaled back or phased progression...

The floor's been pushed at least another week, until after thanksgiving. It all depends on when the electrical and then the drywall can get done.

And like I said, a couple of electrical items need to happen before the cabinets can go in, and at least a few outlets need to go in before the drywall can go up... Ugh...

Ok, if the electrician didn't want to do the job he should have just said so.

Got a second (waiting on third) quote... $4,600... How the first guy got to $10,800 is beyond me. Hope to start moving forward next week.

Well, we did finally get a reasonable estimate and they're starting on Thursday. $3800+

The + is for things not quoted in the original estimate, since the price seemed so reasonable. That includes an extra recessed light in the kitchen, (5) cat5e drops, 5 cable tv drops (currently none), an extra ceiling fan hookup and switch, a couple other odds and ends. But right now we're pretty much waiting on the electrical to do much more.

We've got a vent to extend, as well. Need to find some french doors and a pocket door still... Might get over and do some priming tomorrow... We'll see how well the skim-coating takes the primer and paint...

UPDATE!

Work has begun in earnest again...

Among the things that have gone on:
- Removed mirrors from dining room wall (now cabinet wall)
- Framing and drywall begun
- Electrical work begun (very reasonable, very good, recommended! V&A Electric)
- Wallpaper stripping done in a few key areas
- Some walls stripped, skim coated and primed
- Cleanup the balcony up a bit after all the demo and tile cutting and such
- new doors and hardware throughout - on order. French doors as office entrance, pocket door for office closet door
- some other stuff, I'm sure....

On to the pics!!

My office, framed in...

THE wall, with its first piece of drywall - my office on the other side

The tile, looking even better with a few coats of sealer

The closet with the breaker box... electricians cut lots of holes

Oh yeahh....

a recessed light that will be going in the dining room area

The hideous bedroom wallpaper, painted over by the sales agent

The lovely bedroom wallpaper, scraped and soaked...

what was left after stripping

the very STICKY mass of wallpaper from the bedroom

My office taking shape

Soon to be a new kitchen... lots of work there...

More of the wall

From the living room... High enough to let light in without sacrificing privacy

More fun pics to come this week, I'm sure

Looking good. Are putting anything in the holes in the wall or leaving them open?

Cool recessed light.
