The Superferry Thread
wow! i totaly missed this whole thread today!!! anyway what its this environmental inpact they talk about? some protestor that called in to a radio station couldnt explain what exactly the environmental impact was. if they are worried about unwanted spieces and things like that we should just cut them off
no gas, no food, no Mc.Donalds. better start growing taro

IMO, that whole situation was stupid. it's not like we're foreigners going there, we're residents of the state. and on top of that, it's not like we tell them they can't come over here, WTF is that? all i know is, that w/everything that i've heard, seen, and read, i don't plan to take my car out on the superferry just yet. i quote denzel washington from the movie training day, "give us shit, BOOM we give'em lead". and kent, i hope thats not a SBAR that you own, if you do, YOU'RE SICK and asking for trouble!
i am willing to bet money that only 5% of people are out there protesting because of the environmental issues
the other 95% of the people are just out there protesting for the sake of protesting.
When i was in Korea for work, i was caught in a anti-NAFTA protest. When i asked people why they are protesting. NOBODY could give me a clear answer, all they said was NAFTA is bad, but no reason.
I bet you if you go to Kuaui and ask these protesters why they are protesting, they probably just tell you SuperFerry is bad for the environment, but they can't explain it. Because they are just protesting for the sake of Protesting

i'm worried about what the other corporations around the world are thinking, ie:
"Hawaii gov't approves planning, development and investment in a business sector. gov't approves all plans and routes of xyz company. the gov't lets xyz company spend years and hundreds of millions of dollars on the project. then they let the protesters take control. then the court system puts TRO's on xyz company"
let's see how much investment from outside corporations we get in the coming years. Hawaii's business climate is the absolute worst.

I'm impressed with how the Superferry officials are taking care of those who were stranded. They're paying for hotel, food, rental car and airfare (if necessary).
If I had to leave my S in Kauai, there'd be headline news about how 1 Honolulu boy is leaving bodies all over the island mysteriously and how all the hippies were found in 1 big pile near the rubbish cans.
Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi's customary law would be superseded by the law of false crack.

We can get the damn hippies to go home and shut up if we explain the benefits of an inter-island ferry system as it pertains to them.
With the expansion of inter-island travel that cuts out the "man" watching and screening them through airport security, the inter-island trade of pharmaceutical products will be able to expand. Within a few weeks the potheads favorite dealer will not only stock his favorite local selections, but also top selections from the neighbor islands. Never again will he have to sober up for a couple hours so he can fly to Maui for some choice Maui Wowi as all will be available at his favorite corner stand.
By the time they realize it's all bullshit and start to protest again, they will have forgotten who they were protesting and end up using their signs to build more tree forts.
