I been round and round on this and I finally got a solution to my problem. See, I bought my S at a Toyota dealer, and I did not get the little card with the radio unlock code. I did not know this until this weekend. Since my S sat for the last 6 months dead and no battery at all, the radio code became an issue once the car was operational again.

I looked over the VIN data sent by Rio, and there were two dealer codes. One was a Selling Dealer, one was a PDI dealer. Well it's amaziong what you learn from just two six digit #s! The original selling dealer for my S was in Lubbock, TX, and the car shipped to them from a dealer in Norman, OK! I'm thinkin, wow - where else could it have been before DFW?

I called Bankston who told me dealer 206644 was in Lubbock. I called the dealer in Lubbock, they did not have my unlock code, and said the PDI dealer 207990 would have the unlock code - maybe. I called Bankston back, who referred me to the wonderful folks at Honda North America.

What I learned was that it is not necessary to pull out the stereo to get the serial # from it. Here's how it's done:

1. Turn on car
2. Turn off stereo
3. Hold buttons 1 and 6 down at the same time
4. Turn on the stereo

You should see two #s show up:

U[XXXX]
L[XXXX]

The 8 numerics are the stereo's serial number. If you call Honda and they verify it's your car, they can give you your unlock code, provided the car is LESS THAN 3 years old.

I never accept the 1st answer I'm given, so this is the end result of that. I refused to believe that I had to yank the stereo out of the dash to get the serial #. I did not want to waste gas and time to go all the way over to Ft. Worth for a friend to help me pull it either. Plus, I wanted music in my car NOW, not later!

Now, if someone could tell me the easiest way to do my registration without having to stand in that line at 35/Valley View!! Since I have moved and it's expired, I have to go there in person!

 

pulling the stereo isn't a two person job.. remove the cover.. unscrew 2 screws and pull the unit out turn it over.. write down seriel code.. return unit.. screw 2 screws.. return cover.

5 min...

however.. this way is quicker. not sure that all the phone calls was quicker but the information obtained sure is...

 

I sent you that info on PM, I'm guessing you didn't get it....If you own some of the newer Hondas you can actually take it a step further and turn off some of the other features such as Active Noise Cancellation. and turn the AUX input on/off

Not sure about earlier models, but Honda put a sticker with the radio code on the fold down compartment door between the seats on my '06. Wasn't there on my '02.

I have an 03 and there was no sticker witht he radio code in there. I guarantee it will be written in my owners manual now.

Scott, I did not receive an IM like that. I received only 2 IMs, both one liner-ish in nature, and in one you mentioned I'd have to remove the radio. I figured you didn't want to help.

Anyways here's how the sequence is supposed to go...it may vary a little...

1. Turn your Radio off
2. Press and hold the 1 & 6 Keys together
3. Turn your Radio On

A menu (if apllicable) should follow. On certain vehicles you'll have to play with the buttons to figure out what does what.
