Default Hearing some clicking from the rear, help me diagnose if it is the diff. please...

The other day I noticed a clicking or poping sound from the rear...I thought it sounded like something is loose on the suspension. But, it happens when I am just coasting sometimes...so I am afraid it's the differential.

Tell me if this sounds like something is wrong with the diff.:

1. Started off clicking day before yesterday...not often, but a couple through the day. Today I heard it more often, maybe about 8 times within 4 miles.

2. It happens when accelerating regularly from 0. I hear it when I am slowing down to stop in neutral. I hear it when I am in reverse comming out of my driveway. I hear it when I am just coasting in 1st gear.

The last time I heard it is when I was parking the car in my garage...neutral, going like 2 mph.
Does it sound like a diff. problem?

The car is at home...I was thinking of draining and checking the diff. fluid tonight to check for metal. Would that be a good first step?

Thanks!

I think we have a winner. Change the diff fluid and see if it goes away. Cheap (and needed prolly) and easy way to tell. Later

I had the lube/re-torque thing done yesterday. So far no noise, but it's intermittant anyway so I'll keep an ear out just in case it was something else. (A creaking from the rear suspension when going over particularly steep speed bumps at slow speeds has also gone away, yay!)
