Default convertible top does not go all the way down

Hi. I am going to be purchasing an '04 S2000 in the nex t few days. I went to a dealership tonight and was looking at one. I held the convertible switch down to lower the top, but it only went about 90% down. The salesman and I pressed down (gently), but it wouldn't budge. Is this a known problem on the new S2000's? I did a search on "broken convertible" but didn't get much.

Hmmm, this is becoming a common problem with older cars with some miles on them but I hadn't heard of the '04s doing it until I read this:

I wish the S2000 came with a manual top. It would seem to go well with the car's minimalist motif. My girlfriend has an '03 miata SE, which has a manual top, and it's so simple and easy to use. Just unlatch the 2 latches and flip the top down with 2 fingers. It just falls right down. It's worked perfectly since the day she got it.

This is the second time someone has asked this question today! As I mentioned earlier, my MY04 top had the same problem when it was new. It would not go down all the way on the first try, instead I had to put it down as far as it would go (90%), reverse direction for about 6 inches, and then put it down again. I think this is just due to the top being new. This behavior stopped after 2-3 days, the top has worked fine since then.

I've had manual tops on my other roadsters -- yuck!
