I have spent the better part of this week sitting (mostly waiting) in the Tarrant County (Texas) courthouse. Anyway, I did get on a jury. It was a felony case involving assault. Supposedly, the female of this pair accused the male of cross-dressing and he beat her and cut her with a knife.

The prosecution did not prove there was ever a knife, so we found the guy guilty of misdemeanor assault. Since he had already served 11 months in county jail, he was released with time served.

The defendant weighed in at about 170 pounds. The plantiff was maybe 105 soaking wet. She testified she had come home to find the defendant parading about in her underwear and night gown, which he denied.

When we entered the jury room to deliberate, I pointed to the smallest woman on the jury and asked if anyone thought her panties would fit me. After the eyebrows went down and snickers subsided, everyone agreed that they probably wouldn't, nor would the plantiff's fit the defendant. It was a real "Perry Mason" moment.
