Default MY04 Horn upgrade

vbmarcus started this conversation (link)

Following are the steps needed to install your new horns on a MY01 or MY00. These steps were completed while the battery was connected, perhaps against better judgement.

Access the front bumper area to locate the single horn.

Unplug the wire and remove the bolt to the old (single) horn and choose one of the two new horns take its' place. rpstl picked this one.

Simply plug the wire into the new horn and fasten it with the old bolt. The bolt also serves to ground the circuit.

Because the MY00 & MY01 have a single horn, installing the second horn was not quite as simple. We chose to use a female spade clip instead of purchasing authentic Honda parts.

First, access the wire that connects to your horn from the harness shown here. Tug on it to make sure it's the same wire.

Next, cut the wire and splice into it using the larger 14-16 gauge spade connectors. Be sure to add about 18 inches of additional wire for your second horn to one of the two connectors. Here, we used 18 gauge wire. Connect the female connector to the other end for your second horn.

All connectors were taped to seal out the elements.

Mounting the second horn was accomplished by using a bolt from the hood release mechanism.

Plug the connector into your second horn.

Fasten it to the hood release by replacing the bolt.

Test your new horns!
Replace any covers, bolts, etc. you removed to access the space to the front bumper.

Installing the two horns on a MY02 or MY03 is simple because there are already two (weak) horns. Just unbolt and reconnect the new horns in the same locations. One is in the front bumper area and one is in the engine compartment, passenger side tire area.

Awesome write up Rehile! Thanks a lot. I think I will unplug my battary before hand (that is if I can find the damn radio code).

Great job and thank you BUNCHES for the detailed write up. I am sure this link will see many hits in the future.

Did you end up increasing the amperage on your "horn" fuse?

Yes, I bumped it up to a 20amp fuse. Though, it probably would be fine with a 15 amp fuse.

Good luck with the install.
