Default Clunk in Reverse?

I've searched....

But When I put it in reverse and release the clutch I hear a clink, most deff from Diffy. I don't know what other part of the car could make that noise. Should I worry or is it normal for the diffy to make that noise?

Does that mean I might need new diffy, or is it just gears engaging each other?

Rear pads clunk often when first backing up. If the diff is toast you will know it and it will get worse.

i found out if you let the clutch out as slow as possible, it doesnt make the noise.

Wow. I just posted in an identical thread, with the same problem!

Its pretty normal. Still not 100% sure what is causing it. My dealer diagnosed it as "pad shift". They already did the hub nuts (220#ft) and replaced the calipers on the car. Still there.

It ONLY happens to be when changing directions (reverse to forward, or forward to reverse). If it clicks in reverse, if I stop (do not go forward at all), put it in reverse again, I cannot make it make the noise again. It only makes the noise once I apply braking force, while traveling in a direction opposite the way the last time braking force was applied.

EOE, your issue sounds a little different, unless while you were reversing, your momento changed with every blip of the gas. This i could understand while reversing up a small incline.
