Default Pulling a 5x8 Uhaul trailer?

I've seen people talking about towing little mini-trailers with tires and trackday stuff with their S2000's, and also seen them talk about pulling a pair of jetskis... do you think that I could pull a 4x8 or 5x8 Uhaul trailer with an S2k? It would be pretty lightly-laden... I'm probably going to have no more than three hundred pounds; clothing, books, an aquarium, etc... single dude who lives in a studio type stuff, so all told it'll probably be less than the jetskis...

The trip would be from Seattle to LA, or possibly SF if I get a better job offer there in the next few weeks... so between 800-1100 miles, mostly flat land with a couple mountain ranges to get over.

What do you guys think? I'd rather drive my S2k than a gigantic uhaul that I'm going to fill up 1/3rd of and blow $1200 on truck & trailer and another grand on gas... but then I also don't want to kill my transmission or rear diff. Should I add an oil or transmission fluid cooler?

the weight of the trailer plus all your stuff seems like it would be unsafe to pull with an s2000. The trailer alone weighs ~900. On top of the fact that the car has to pull all that it has to stop it too. Id say you should get a u-haul and tow the S.

I would not do it. I have an Element that tows the 5x8 fine, but no way I am going to do that with my S! Remember those Uhual trailers on there own are really heavy (900lbs), plus the weight of the stuff in it. Find a friend that will tow the stuff with another car or truck.

I wouldn't do it either you can always look into those places that rent a pod for you to put your stuff in and they drop it off at your new place, probably at least $500 but I'd say thats worth it.

I work at U-Haul
The hook-up validation says the s2k can pull a 5X8 trailer with upto
600 lbs of cargo weight...
but the hook up validation is pretty vague and based upon your vehicles weight and engine size
Its up to you in the long run

Thanks everyone for answering my questions and doing it respectfully

It sounds pretty risky... maybe from one town to another, but a thousand miles? I don't want to have to buy a new drivetrain once I get back down to LA.

Plus when I looked at the installation process for the hitch - with the bolts in the spare wheel well - I got second thoughts. I can't imagine four bolts through a thin metal plate being that sturdy.

I'm going to look at a used '82 Suburban with a big 6.2 diesel tomorrow, haha.
