i know this has been beaten to death but in my situation money is an issue. and i dont want to ask my parents for any more money. (they got me the subie.)

im 18 and can sell my 01 subaru impreza for about 9.5k.

ive located several 00-01 s2ks for about 15-16k

ive located a 02 s2k for 16k and others for round 17-18k

if i down pay the car 9.5 and finance i can pay the car off in 4-5 years at about 200 dollars a month (ill probably have money to shave off a year or so down the line) this is for the 02 s2k.

if i get the 01 i can pay about a little over 200 for 3 years or 150ish for 4 years.

the main conflict is the rear window.

i know no matter how good condition the plastic window is it will eventually become unvisible if it is not already partially blurry. if i were to get the 01 s2k now. my plan was to after the car was paid off in the few years i would then shove out the required money to have the top replaced with glass.

so which is the smarter choice? fiancially is the reason for my dilemma

I think that for the money you plan on spending to replace the plastic window that you just get the 02 instead.

Yea....i was in that situation as well. Go for the 02.
Better fuel map, glass window, and i think they made some changes to the transmission - I drove a few 00/01's and the it didnt seem the same?? Coulda been in my head or not my shift knob...who knows. At any rate the price difference isnt that much and as long as its an AP1, the newer the better

glass windows are nice that's for sure, that's why i upgraded mine...but if i were you, i wouldn't worry about that, i would worry about the overall mechanical condition of the car and how many miles it has...the top can be easily replaced

I would recommend an 02 because of glass rear and not limited to just the glass rear upgrade, the better audio, the leather shift boot area, chrome rings around the rear lights and depending of if you can find one of the 02-03 models with an all red interior...in my opinion this is hot and rare. These were the things that helped me make up my mind on an 02.

I say, dont worry about the top just yet. Owrry about the mileage of your car. Cuz whereever you found that s2k for 16k probably has around 60k miles and to me thats pretty high to start off with.

I you don't have a garage or your car, definitely get the '02 with the glass rear window. No garage and plastic rear windows just don't mix. On the other side of the coin, some short drivers have difficulty seeing out of the smaller glass rear window on the '02 and up. Check this out for youself.

i say go with the 02 if the mileage is not too high.

as for the 02 i had my eye on. it has 72k on it. im coming from a 60k subaru.

is that oo high mileage? really anything 16k is like my budget limit. any more i may have to give up on the s2k.
