Default 02 s2k Just Purchased, Warranty Though?

hey everyone thanks for reading this posting. im buying my first s2k, its an 02 grand prix white, red dash and interior with 40,000 miles... car fax is clean (but car fax isnt always updated) and the price is pretty fair and the paperwork is pretty much completed im just not sure if i should get an extended warranty. I have 4 friends with s2000's, 1 has blown his motor and regretted not getting the warranty, and the other 3 have blown their differentials once or twice... and none of them had the extended warranty... im not sure how these cars perform as to yet, but i know they arent cheap the maintain. for about $2,000.00 for 3 year extended warranty, is it worht the purchase in the long run? like a better safe than sorry, or is it a bad idea and a trick to take more money. I know for instance when i had purchased an eclipse before it came with a warranty, i blew the motor up and it cost around $4,000.00 to fix, thankfully i had the warranty. what are your opinions? thanks for your time it is highly appreciated.

I'm not sure why your friends are having such trouble with your cars. Are you modding? Are you overrevving?

Given your history, it might be worth getting the warrantee.

if your going to modd your car.. then obviously your wasting your money.. if you plan on keep it stock.. then yes, get the warranty b/c you may very well need it.. your not the original owner..

Hmm... In general, the S2000 is a damn reliable car. There are many folks who have driven their cars hard for years with no signs of letting up.

An engine failure, which does happen to some, is an expensive repair. If you trash the engine by overrevving it, you will probably be denied warrantee regardless.

So, my opinion is that the extended warrantee is not worth it. On the other hand, if you are lucky and have a great dealer near you, it might be worth considering. I'd say, in general though, most (or at least a large percentage) of us around here don't go to the dealer for service.

I agree, I think it's all about how the car is driven in addition to what has been done to it to increase the power.
Some just buy the warranty for peace of mind. Now to elaborate on what s2kabob said, "if your going to modd your car.. then obviously your wasting your money" Thats can be true for some, but, it all depends on how modification friendly your servicing dealer is. I know for instance, my Acura (have an Acura) dealer here is NON mod friendly, and will attempt to blame every little problem on modifications. So just think about the future and what you plan to do with the car, and your driving style.

The s2000 is relatively cheap to maintain.

It's just not cheap when your engine, differential, or transmission blows up...but when that happens, it's almost always because of user error.
