Default Greetings - prospective owner

Greetings all; new member. I am in the market for an S2000 now; considering replacing my RX8. RX8 has become my leisure car now, and I want my leisure car to have no roof. :-)

I drove my first S2000 last night; 2005 Silver with 9800 miles at a Hummer dealer. Something did not seem quite right about the acceleration; it seemed like it was not making power. I did not feel the VTEC punch that I expected (should happen twice, right?) as I increased RPMs.

I'm sure this is due to rotary vs piston, but it felt very rough and it sounded like I was killing it compared to my 8.

Anyway, I'll go drive some more and see if my sample produces consistent results.

Welcome! You PM'd me on RX8club.com, right?

On the AP2, VTEC kicks in at about 6000 rpm. It is not as pronounced as in some of the other Hondas like the RSX Type S.

I run Mobil 1 syn and the engine is quite smooth even though it is not as smooth as the rotary. Not sure if it is fair to compare a 4 banger to a rotary in terms of smoothness.

Yep, I did meet you over there. Nice to talk again.

Yeah, I meant no foul against the S2000 smoothness. Just it was so different from my 8 that it felt like something was struggling. I need to drive another one and see if it's just what I'm used to vs. what should be. There may well have been something wrong with that car.

Well there must have been something wrong with that car because the one that I just bought (Yay!) is smooth as butter. Now I count the miles until I can open it up past 5500RPM.

Something definately is wrong with that S2000 imo.
It's a MY05, so it still is the 2.0L 9k rpm version right?

VTEC should kick in around 6k and you should very well feel the power and the changing sound! Was there enough oil in the engine? VTEC is operated by engine oil. Was the car warmed up? Did it rev to 9k?

There is only 1 VTEC kick though, not twice...
