Default How to break in my S2k and misc. questions.

I can't wait! I just bought an 06 Silverstone S2K. It is going to be delivered in less than 10 hours.

This will be my 3rd new car. My first was a 92 Honda VX and my second was my 01 RX300.

This is my game plan but I am open to suggests.

I am going to try to keep my RPM under 5-6K for the first 500 miles. 500-1000 I will just push it a little more. After 1k I will be opening it up and really finding out how my Vtec performs.

I was thinking about changing out the oil at 500 miles and switching to Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic. After that, I will change it at 3000.

Does anyone have an opinions about oil additives? If so, which one?

Is it worth it to get an aftermark alarm? If so, what is a good one? How about a club? Is it effective?

How about a 3m clear bar? Is it worth it?

Does anyone have any suggestions for the hardtop conditioner? Do I need to start applying one?

Should I keep my top up or down when Im parked in the garage?

Do people usually have car covers? If so, what covers are good?

My S2K will be my weekend car and I plan to keep it a long time.

Thanks for your time and I'm looking forward to hearing your expert opinions.

Well I am not an S2000 owner yet, but here is what I would do if I bought a new S2000. I think I can help you with a few questions.

Typically I would say to keep the RPM's under 5500 till the full 1,000 miles. That way VTEC doesnt engage.

Since you would be driving it easy till it was broken in, dont change the oil out till you absolutely feel like it was rightfully broken in.

I think you should keep the top up while it is parked in your garage. That way it keeps all the dust that gets kicked up out of your interior.

if you search the forums...you will see that most suggest you wait til 10,000 miles to switch to synthetic. i currently have 2,300 miles and will change the oil at 4,000 miles and dont plan to switch over to synthetic until 12,000 miles.

i heard that if you switch to synthetic too early, your car will burn oil.

My silverstone 06 has just over 2000 miles now. I kept it under 5k for the first 700 miles, the owners manual says 650. I did run it up once when test driving just to see what vtec is all about. I still don't use vtec much, just don't drive hard enough to have a need for it.

the owners manual will answer lots of your questions. you're supposed to keep the break in oil in the car for a long time (I can't remember the mileage) due to the fiber reinforced cylinder walls.

if you're going to keep the car in the garage you might want the cover to keep dust off of it' I don't use one but i keep mine in a carport.

Use the 303 on the top, you'll find it covered in the faq in the wash and wax forum. There's lots of good tips in that forum for taking care of the car and where to get the supplies

I don't have an alarm, and don't plan to get one. most of them won't stop someone who wants to mess with your car anyway, IMO.

one of the best things about the s2k is this website and the formums. all the information you might need is here, or, if not, someone is here who will help you find the answer.

You'll love it.

IMO if you keep your car garaged when not in use and the top up then you should not really need to condition it.

Keeping your top up when parked also keeps it nice and taut and wrinkle free.

Wow, I am really surprised that the owners manual would recommend keeping the RPM's under 5k for the first 650 miles - I haven

That topic is talked to death on this forum. Yes, it clearly states to keep the car below 5500rpms for the first 600 miles in the OM. Also to keep the original oil in the car until the oil life meter reads 10%. I don't know about Synthetic oil- I planned to switch when the original oil needs to be changed. Maybe I will wait until the second change.

You should also check your oil and if needed top off with good quality dino oil. It is important to break in with the factory fill. some might suggest that you switch to syn right after 600 miles.
you should listen to what honda says in the manual.. find that asap...
