I'm lookin to buy a used s2k and willin to spend at most 26k. From what I've heard the 00-03 models have problems with the tranny. From you guys experience can you tell me if this is true and if there are any other problems you ran into? Also, I checked at craigslist and autotrader, any other sites ya'll would recommend?

 

I've never heard of a tranny issue - 00-01s had some issues with other things, but 02 and later are fine. You can get a nice off lease 03 or 04 easy, so it comes down to what you want out of the car. I'd also check the for sale threads here in the FS forum - lots of cared for cars here.

 

You shouldn't have to spend 26K for any MY00 - MY03. Maybe for an 05 with low miles.

Tranny problems? Well there were some TSBs for MY00-MY01 related to the clutch and to gear crunch... Minor stuff, though. Best bet is a test drive and a compression and leak-down test to get confident in the car.
