Default looking at buying an s2k

Im looking for this car to be my DD but im goin to tune it for the back roads and mountain roads ect.
Whats the differences and +'s and -'s for each car. and which would be suited more for what i want. I really like the ap1 for the 9k redline but ive heard the handling is a little more unforgiving but the suspension will be dialed in differently anyways. Im kinda new to the s2k scene ive always liked them but ive been more an Evo guy, but since i drove my buddies S2k ive been hooked and i like it more than the evo once had all help will be appreciated

Since you're going to be tuning the suspension, I can't really say what you should get. From what I know, the AP2 has a stronger transmission and differential, but of course it doesn't have the 9000 redline, however it does make up for it with extra torque. The stronger transmission and differential might be a better choice in the long run for the daily driving. AP2 has better valve retainers (intake and exhaust) and I also heard that the oil pan is better in the AP2 as well. AP1 is more for the raw 2.0 screaming-in-your-face feeling and is more race-like compared to the AP2. I own an AP1 myself and my buddy has an AP2 and I love both cars. Hope I helped and good luck in finding an S2000!!

There are some differences cosmetically as well: The AP2 has new front and rear bumpers, revised headlight assemblies, new LED tail-lights, and oval-tipped exhausts. Torque was increased and horsepower decreased from 240 to 237. The AP2 also -- as previously mentioned -- has a revamped suspension which was designed to reduce over-steer. I think the AP2 would be a better DD, and is frankly -- in my opinion -- the more refined of the two vehicles (speakers built into the head rests which was something Honda forgot to add in the AP1 for example). Maybe drive them both and see which one you fancy more! When it comes down to it, they are both fantastic cars!!

Um, I don't think that part about the horsepower difference is entirely accurate. From what I understood, it was always 237 regardless of model year, but whatever entity regulates that said manufacturers couldn't round the figures anymore. It just happened to be around the same time that the AP2 was introduced. I could be way off though.

That makes sense Julie; now that I think about it, that sounds familiar.

regardless, this topic has been covered a million ways from sunday...people who own an AP1 will tell you to buy that model, people who own an AP2 are going to tell you to buy that one...best thing you can do is test drive both and see what fits better for you

I own an AP1 and voted for AP1...but if it is going to be your DD, I would recommend an AP2. Don't get me wrong, I love my AP1 but the AP2 is more refined for a DD. The additional torque will help as well for DD duties. Either way, you can't go wrong. Best of luck!
