Default Mileage: How many is TOO many?

Just curious what mileage I should start to be weary about with an S2000. I know it'll vary on how well the car was maintained, and/or beaten on - but just in general, how many would you stray away from? Is 80-90k too much, even if the price is considerably low? What sort of problems commonly occur around this mileage? One of my close friends has a 2001 with 60k and he already had the tranny rebuilt and the differential replaced - and he's a pretty conservative driver.

And do certain years have more problems than others? I'm assuming a 2000 would be the most problematic of the years - am I wrong for thinking that? I'm already aware of the rear window, I'm not concerned about cosmetic problems really, just mechanical.

I'd really love to get a clean one with 30k, but they just seem too far out of my price range and I'm needing to pick up a new car soon and an S2000 is what I'm absolutely set on.

Thanks in advance.

It's a Honda...no worries! Seriously, I bought mine with 95k on it and I AutoX locally and nationally. I wasn't worried a bit about the mileage when I bought it. It depends on the car and how it was taken care of, but still then things are going to happen and will happen no matter what mileage is on the car. It will vary from car to car. I was like you, price was a buying point and the higher the mileage, the cheaper they get. I own a car dealership and have a enough experience with Hondas to know they are usually bullet proof.

I would be more worried about the things dicussed on S2KI. For instance the upper a-arms on the AP1s. 4 autoxes in for mine and I had already torn them.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not a huge fan of Auto X'ing, but I would be doing occasional track days at Infineon and Thunderhill, so I'll keep those A-Arms in mind, thanks.

I suppose if I found an adult-driven car with higher mileage, I'd feel more comfortable buying that than a teenager with a heavy foot. I guess I will just have to see what comes my way!

Right on. I am in the same situation, 93.5K on her and I run the bejesus out of the car....it just comes back asking for more.

Mileage generally isn't an issue, if the price is right.

You want to make sure you factor in the cost of changing expensive wear/tear parts -- i.e. clutch and maybe even timing belt. Otherwise, if the car's driven properly, everything should be good

Good luck!
