Hello everyone, I just got an 02'. I'm completely obsessed with it
Is there any preventative measures that I should do? What I mean is if there
are any known problems with S2ks that I should know about?

Also, I really want to get an intake and exhaust. I'm thinking about a custom 2.75" single exhaust from an exhaust shop cause I don't have too much money. I know
single exhaust are loud so I'm wondering what is the most quiet muffler I can put
on it.

Lastly, is there an intake that is referred to be the best in terms of high rpm horsepower gains? I'm not looking for low end or midrange gains just top end. I also don't care if it is chrome with carbon fiber accents

If there isn't such intake, is there a certain style intake that is referred to be as the best?

remember to check the oil everytime you fill up. These cars burn some oil, but its normal.

 

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the site.
You are not going to get very much out of an intake; you would have to go to forced induction ($$$) to get the kind of gains you seem to indicate.

Thank you all for your advise so far. I'm not looking for insane gains from an intake but I rather have 6hp gain than 3hp specially at like 7k rpm or something I'm also planning to stay NA. Any quick suggestions on how to get a decent increase in hp? Does a cat back exhaust do anything in these cars? Does an aftermarket header make a significant difference?

BTW: Thanks for the advise on the oil I had no idea. I'll make sure to keep an eye on the oil level.. Pretty scary if I didn't know considering the thing revs so high

Congrats, I just got an 02 GPW on Monday and I'm loving every second of it

 

since you want to stay NA, i'd suggest getting ITB's later on. Thats the most gains you'll get out of some sort of an intake system. However, you're going to need to run some sort of piggyback I believe. However, they do sound very nice. I believe they gain somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 HP. Dont quote me on that though. As for exhausts, if you want to see gains, you're going to have to get a single outlet exhaust, so unless you're concerned about looks, then thats the way to go. Unfortunately for the most part, the louder the exhaust, the higher the gains, so its up to you to see what you would like.

I actually like the look of single exhaust but I'm trying to be able to talk to a passenger in the car while I drive hahaha. I think I will get a single exhaust and try to fit the largest muffler I can find on there.

Well I'm not too sure about the cost of ITB's but it'll the one of the best parts to get for N/A'ness. If you like single exhausts and large muffles, I think the Invidia gives the greates gains. Basiclly, get the largest exhaust you can, and that will give the be most power. However, be prepared for the blood thats going to spew out of your ears lolol. Please post pics and vids as you progress along your build.

 

ahahaha the blood.. I used to run a JDM b16 with an open header and I would almost pop my ears every time I floored it above the vtec crossover. It really was painful lol. I'm gonna look into the Invidia. Maybe I can find a used one?
