Hi all! I picked up an '04 with 76k back in February before the quarantine started. I had wanted an S for many years but wouldn't feel right subjecting it to DD duties. After paying off my DD a year ago and saving up, the time was finally right.
It has been great to have the car to work on while stuck at home. The roads are empty around me so cruising around is wonderful.
The surprise I ran into while going through the car was in the area behind the trunk line, next to the spare....a damn mouse nest!!
There was a slight odor in the cabin when I bought the car but I just attributed it to lingering from the previous owner and it would go away when I detail the seats and carpet. Well that wasn't the case. Thankfully there weren't any bodies when I pulled the trunk liner but mouse poop abound. The buggers had been nesting with the insulation material atop the fuel pump. So I stripped the trunk and deep cleaned all of it. Had to pull out a lot of the insulation material from under the convertible top "tray". Afraid to remove 100% of it, I sanitized the remaining material that hadn't been chewed on.
The odor is mostly gone, although I might have to strip all the remaining insulation just to get it all. Hopefully that won't allow excessive road noise into the cabin. Otherwise, I have been loving the car.
