Yes, it is! Please, Ben, don't get fooled. You can easily burn a quart in a few hundred miles depending on your driving. AP1 engines weren't honed that well, and the FRM cylinder wall technology wasn't completely perfected (vis-a-vis the piston rings) in the original engines, and there is almost always some blow-by during normal driving. I haven't found any real pattern to the oil use, but you *must* keep you eye on it.

I usually drop in 1/8 qt every other fillup or so to climb back up from one or two Xs down on the dip. And my engine really isn't bad.

Oh, and the engine holds about 5 and a half quarts (I don't have my manual handy, but the exact number is in there). Overfilling is discouraged. That can cause other (less serious) problems. Running with an extra 1/4 quart? Probably no problem. 1/2 quart, starting to be a concern.

The trick, when you're topping off, is just spill a little at a time in. If you're really checking every fill up, you should only ever have to drop in a very small amount and then check it next time.

It really doesn't matter. I think once the rings set that's it. Things stay that way for the life of the engine. My engine, while not consuming a ton, definitely consumes regularly. I've got 50K, and going strong.

You're welcome.

after searching a lot it seems that this problem only happens to some people with the s2000's are the cylinder walls nikasil coated? my guess is this oil consumption is due to poor break in

Nikasil? I don't think so. The cylinder walls are fiber-reinforced metal (FRM).

Some engines leak more than others. It really hasn't been correlated to break-in, Ben. If you're vigilant, it simply won't matter.

Yeah believe me ill be checking way too often I was just curious I know with motorcycles like the honda cbr they have nikasil coating on their cylinder walls and if you pussy the break in they burn oil forever. I just kind figured Honda small motor super high output high reving maybe they borrowed some design ideas from their MC division
