New Owner, New Questions :)
Hi guys,
I just purchased a 2001 S2000 with 14k miles today. First thing I did after reading this board is change the oil with 10W30 Mobil1 Synth and a honda OEM filter to ensure oil is fesh and topped off. I have a question regarding the clutch/trans. I think I read this on here, but when I let off the gas in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear, there is a somewhen loud hum when at higher RPM, not so audible at lower RPM. Is this something common with the S2k of this year? This car is like a go cart, I had a boxster before and that was like a luxury car compared to this, but I like the S2k better : I just love how raw this car is.
Thanks Much

Well.. some hums can be considered normal, but some are not. There is a known problem with the clutch, where it will hum/rumble/buzz when coasting in gear from a higher rpm. This noise is not a sign of a problem and wont cause any damage or danger, but it can be fixed with a new clutch. To test for this, start to coast from a high rpm, then disengage the clutch and see if the noise stops immediately.

19. When I decelerate past about 4500 rpm, there is this rattling sound. It's awful and embarassing. What's wrong with my car?-- NOTHING! It's the well known "clutch deceleration buzz". Honda has a TSB on this for the earlier model year cars, but even the newer models can produce this buzz. It's just a noise and doesn't mechanical affect the car in a bad way. It will NOT blow up because of it. You have caused it NO damage.
