Post New S2000 convert here - from German to S2K...

Well...the name is David A. I live in Southwest Florida and I've been in love with cars since, well - forever. My first word was car...and it will probably be my last. I'm a big BMW guy and know literally everything about them (feel free to ask me anything if you guys ever need any help - all the way from the E3 to the E92...I've got it covered). I'm also a huge autocross junky and have been sliding around ever since I can remember.

I recently started looking at S2000's and I've fallen in love with them - hard. My friend Randy and John both let me drive their's and all I can say that the car has everything I could ever want in a car - very little - amazing transmission, minimal interior, amazing drivetrain, responsive suspension...I've never felt more comfortable in a car at the limits or sideways. But for now I am stuck with my E46...which I do love. I am in school down here and loving it. Randy and John told me about this site so I definitely wanted to check it out and I'm liking what I see. I post a lot on Bimmerforums so if any of you guys are on there, you'll surely know me. I am also finishing up my private pilot license and I absolutely love photography...I also play a little bit of guitar on the side. All three are big hobbies/passions of mine...behind driving.

I want to get into a few drifting events in the near future and I'm going to be at the West Palm event come the 9th...I'm always down for tearing it up and the fact that it's legal makes it even better!

Anyway, enough with the small talk...I know you guys just want to see some pictures and video!

Hope you like them...

(Just incase you are wondering, the car is a Topaz Blue 2001 E46 3.0L and the only mod I have right now is the Shark...)

It's really not that hard to slide with an open diff...it's a little harder in tighter spots (where an LSD would be nice) but weight transitions are my friend...

Oh yeah, I was going to take my car and turn it into a dedicated track car down the line but now that I realize what I am missing out on I really do need to get myself into one of these awesome cars ASAP...

Sorry for the crappy video compilation - I just took clips from a bunch of random videos that I've seen myself in and threw them together...

(Yeah...I know most of this is just doing large controlled circles, but it's really the only video that I have...I need to get some good video for you guys.)

Hope you guys like my intro - if you ever want to chat shoot me an IM on AIM at "Florida Skier88"...see ya around!

Haha...do you love it enough to trade?

And yeah - I'm hoping to make it, too.

Neat pictures, Dave!

Welcome to the site. There are quite a few folks racing S2000s out there, and while it might not be the most minimalist car out there, it's a fun ride. I've loved mine for 4+ years now and going strong.

Lots of S2000 folks in Florida, Dave. You should check out the local s2ki.com communities.

Best wishes.

Haha...I won't say that I will never own a BMW again but after 3 of them I am ready for a change...maybe I'll go back to them when I get a little older...but for now I just want something that is fun and raw...

Exactly.....

I've owned a 325i, 540i and we still have a 745i in the family. I was always under the impression the BMW's were the Ultimate Driving Machine (obviously they still are for many) but the S really opened my eyes.

I also enjoy the fact that it is cheaper to service and maintain!

I also live in South Florida and am a previous owner of an E46. I would post pictures but I can't seem to figure out how. In any case, the transition from the E46 to the S was easy for me. No regrets, no doubts, no looking back. The E46 looked great (M3 front, angle eyes, staggered 19s, M3 lip spoiler, clears, eyebrows, etc + factory sports package), was torquey, sounded great (Dinan CAI, Dinan exhaust), handled and braked well, etc. But in the end, it was pricey as hell to maintain, and it wasn't sporty enough. I bought that car to get away from fast sporty cars (before it I owned a 300whp turbocharged Nissan 240sx with the works) but that could only last for so long.

With the Bimmer, I received lots of praise, compliments, and such but I wasnt really happy. Now, with the S, its all smiles. Granted its not a very fast car out of the box, its definitely a joy-maker nonetheless.

PS: Dave, by the way you are tracking and beating on the 330, I take it that you are not worried about the notorious rear subframe issues they tend to have. I hated always having to baby the car cause I didnt want my subframe to crack and rip from under me.
