Have you shared this thread with the prior owners? I bet they would love it.

I like the ap1 oem wheels well enough, and your are right that picture shows them in the best possible light. In my first year of ownership I was persuaded by folks here that I should move to 17 inch wheels. I tried that for a while, but in the end I returned to 16 inch wheels and I prefer them. I think the car rides a tiny bit better and it handles on the street a little better in my opinion. A bit more lively. I have fallen in love with the BBS JDM 16" forged wheels. I have two sets. Very light. Not gorgeous, but they have a cool factor going on that the US OEM wheels lack. I have one set that was refinished last winter, and I have been driving them all summer. The other set needs to be refinished.

Yeah that angle really shows that there is so much more to the OEM wheels than what you see straight-on from the side. I can appreciate many different aspects of the BBS 16" forged wheels (how much of a weight savings do you realize from those wheels?). But for as long as I can remember, wheels with designs where the ratio of the wheel's elements to the number of lug nuts is not symmetrical makes me cringe, almost like fingernails on a chalkboard. So cars with five "spokes" and just four lug nuts drive me mad, same goes for six spokes and five lug nuts, etc.. It's just my own personal hangup. Most people surely don't care, but I'm incredibly peculiar about such things and I imagine that's why transitioned from engineering to graphic designer earlier in my career.

By the way Deckoz, I'm pretty sure that the leather tunnel wrap on the later cars is actually vinyl.

I'm in the same "predicament" (I've told this story more than once around here). I only know the former owner of our S from the various conversations that were part of the purchasing process. All in all we probably spent around three hours with her when we went to buy the car. I imagine that she was maybe around 70 or so, but she was a real kick. She loved this car and personally knew Parker Johnstone (his Honda dealership is where the car originated). Ultimate she was forced to sell due to the neck and back pain the S was causing every time she drove the car. It got to the point where she was only putting a few hundred miles per year on the car. But she still made sure to keep up with having the maintenance performed on an annual basis and she kept the car in pristine condition. It was very obvious that this car meant a lot to her. After we purchased the car and were getting ready to head back home, she told my wife and I that she was really happy that we were the ones that ended up buying her car. We texted her later that night to let her know that we had decided to "name" the car after her, in her honor, which she said made her very happy. I promised her that night that I would not pester her about the car, and I haven't touched base with her since then. I'd love to let her know that we're doing right by the car, but I think she already had it in her mind that we were going to do just that.

Not sure what the weight savings is exactly but these BBS JDM wheels are light. I believe the fronts are about 13Lbs and the rears are about 14Lbs? Not sure. They are hard to find in good shape and they aren't cheap, especially when you factor in refinishing. My experience is that its tough to find high quality 16 inch wheels that fit the s2k correctly. The only options I have seen are the oem and the jdm. I once saw a set of used 16" Volk CE28 (or similar model) pop up for sale. They looked pretty nice. But, I was awash in wheels at the time and they were expensive and not in the best shape so I let them go.

BTW - I have a set of excellent condition ap2 v3 wheels that I would let go to a good home. Just sayin'.

There are no doubt plenty of others around here who would happily pay a rather handsome sum for those AP2v3 wheels. My favorite wheels are the AP2v1 variety. As much as I like the AP1 styling, The first generation AP2 cars just connected with me that much more. Yes, I know the visual changes are small and most non-S2000 people wouldn’t even know the difference. But I saw almost every change that was made in 2004 as a positive. Just the same, if I had ended up buying an ‘00 - ‘03 S2K, I’d still keep it just as it came from the factory simply because I dig the AP1’s for what they are. Personal preferences aside, I find them all to be beautiful machines in my own personal opinion.

I think that is great since cars are meant to be driven. After watching a lot of auto auctions on tv lately, I get the sense that it is more accepted these days for collector cars to have miles and imperfections because it shows that the car wasn't just an investment to make money but it was a car that was enjoyed. If I am buying a collector car, of course I want it to be the best it can be but I also enjoy the story and the history behind it all. A car becomes part of you and when you sell it on you want it to get the same treatment and respect that you gave it.
I have had my S2000 since early May and have driven it 1800 miles. There is a clone of my car a few blocks away so I get waves from people as I drive by until they realize it isn't who they thought it was in the car.

I think sometimes we fall into the trap of thinking of our cars as investments. Its easy to do. From my perspective, the best I hope for with the S is maybe losing a little less on the car that I drive than I ordinarily would. That, and having some fun. I drive my S to work in good weather and it has transformed my commute into something I look forward to every day. What a joy.

Careful with your analogies, so far I’d say that you’ve had a very intense but brief fling, lol. I’d probably reserve the love affair status for those remaining original owners that are still around. But there’s no doubt that if you were to have to give up your car after all the work you’ve put into it it would be a true heartbreaker regardless.

Did your bumper fit that well around the tail lights when you got it? A small gap in that area seems to be a common problem; I have that issue myself. I saw some people remove the tail lights and essentially push the bumper snug and then drill into the sheet metal to secure it....Absolutely not for me. Wonder if there's a way to shim it for a better fit somehow.

Also:

Fellow calico cat dad here. Found her outside in September a few years ago at 6 weeks old, super hungry, wet, dirty. Took her in and she’s been daddy's girl since....Glued to me the second I get through the door. Sleeps right on my chest every night. We call her the lil' tank because she's big and likes to park herself on me, gets kinda difficult because she's kinda heavy, but we make it work
