Default Possible future owner has a question

Howdy yall,

I really like the Honda S2000, always have. I am trying to swing things so that I can get one by the end of the year. My question is, although I have driven a bit in a Subaru that had a stick, I am still relatively new to a manual trans considering my first car was an automatic. I just wanted to get some opinions and info about the stick in the S2000 from current and past owners about it. Is the clutch very sensitive or is there some give to it? Will the trans take a bit of abuse as I take the first week or two to finish getting adjusted to a stick? Things like that. I have test driven a manual current model Civic about a year ago and the clutch and shifting were O.K., something I feel I could adjust to quickly enough, but the S2000 is more sports tuned and oriented, so I am not sure what to expect. I am holding off test driving one for the time being considering I don't want to damage the car some how by accident. Thanks for any information and advice.

Its not too crazy. The engagement point is really low compared to some other cars so theres a chance you might stall it thinking that its going to release later. It will definately be able to handle it since it will only take you about a day to get somewhat used to it.

Just be extremely careful as the car is very easy to mis shift and over rev if your not familiar. My 2nd day of owning the car I shifted from 3rd to 2nd at redline and bent all my valves. I was heartbroken and pretty broke after that lol. Dont drive too aggresively till you get a feel for the car.

Go and test drive one, youll be fine.

Also want to wait to test drive one till I have the money, otherwise it may just kill me to wait.

The car is fairly forgiving and easy to drive, but of course it can only take so much!!!

How about buying a beater to learn standard then selling it later.

It's not that finicky of a clutch but start off taking it easy. You don't want to mechanically over-rev.

I let a friend with a Mini drive mine and she had absolutely no trouble with it but she wasn't trying to push the S at all.

I am fairly confident in driving a stick when it comes to the mechanics because of learning the basics with a Subaru, which has a very touchy clutch. I guess what I was asking is that if the first couple of times driving it I stall it out because of a miss with the clutch or shift, I was hoping that wouldn't really affect it. I know that all vehicles have their own "personality" and every one has their own opinions about the car. I also know that most manual trans are designed to have a little give. I just wanted to make sure that I could get a great performance car for the remainder of my college years as well as the first part of my professional life before I inevitably have to switch to something with 4 doors to be a bit more family oriented later down the road.

I think that this is one of the easiest cars to drive. The cluth and shifter work very nice together and my friends all agree (none of them drive stick) that it was a very easy car to drive.
