Default Possibly getting an S2k

Hi all,

I'm a long-time S2000 fan, and I've finally come across one in my area that I'm going to take a look at this week. I'm actually going to drive out to the dealership lot check out as much as I can today before I go there for a test drive. I've been lurking the forums and reading up a bit but any helpful info you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Car specs:
'03 Silverstone/Black
60k miles. (Little high, imo)
VIN: JHMAP11463T000593

The free Carfax report shows 15 items on record, which gives me pause. When I'm able to speak with a sales rep I'm going to request a detailed report on the car. The dealer quoted me $18,950 over the phone, which is within the budget but I naturally hope to get a better deal. I'll post again once I've taken a look at the car.

For$18k, you can find a better deal elsewhere. You will definetely be happy w/ a s2k. It's a fun car to drive!

Josh: Judging by the S2k deals thread, I'm inclined to believe you.

I took a look at the car a couple hours ago. A small paint scratch under the driver's headlight and a couple rock chips in what I understand are the usual places were the only blemishes I could find on the exterior. The interior looks like a new car imo, no tears or worn spots anywhere. I couldn't see anything wrong with the top either. Tires had decent tread, fronts were not original (not surprised).

I'll wait and see what the dealer tells me when I talk to them over the phone. I was already not wanting to pay their asking price based on mileage, now I have a little more to go on at least.

$18K is a little high but not outrageous. You may pay for good condition, but I agree that 60K miles is a little high (not that it'll have any negative effect on the car). Yeah, see if you can do a little bargaining into the 17s on this.

I don't think I'll have too much trouble getting a lower price, considering the dealership lists the price at $17,800 on the net. I'll call them on it if the car drives well and has no obvious issues that would make me stay away.

Any opinions as to if I should change the timing chain tensioner ASAP should I get this car?
