Default Potential new S2k owner, opinion on this car?

Hello,

I am looking into buying a S2000 because it looks like a fun car with low maintenance, and I miss driving stick and love a convertible. I currently have an Evo X MR heavily modified and would likely park that and daily the S2k and learn how to drive and have fun. Anyways, I was pre-approved for a loan at capital one and saw a white S2k at a local dealership. Here is the link, https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=169634886
I saw a thread on here about this car. What I know is that it is a widebody with advan racing rims, probably stock suspension. I am going to see if I can get it for about $18,500 OTD. Do you guys know what I should look out for and if $18.5k OTD is reasonable or should I go lower? Thanks.

Having just bought an S2000 in that area, I'll give my two cents.

$18.5k might be the lowest they would go if you can get it and I think it would be a good deal if you did. Typically, dealers will reduce the price of cars the longer they sit on the lot, but this doesn't mean a few days. Most dealers reduce prices by $500 at the 30, 60 and 90 day (if they last that long). But of course, different dealers do different things, especially in the Orange County area.

It also depends on the market conditions and if the car is modified, which this car is. That being said, it might sit a little longer and if you could wait a little while, it could work in your favor. Either way, it doesn't hurt to contact them and ask about pricing. Just keep in mind that if they can't get to the number in your head, it's not the end of the world, just do whatever feels right as long as the deal sounds fair. I say that because the market for S2000's going up so dealers seem to be sticking to theirs guns on pricing because they know that someone will eventually even if you don't.

As far as what to look out for, I would make the Carfax is clean and check for the VIN tags on the panels that still look OEM, which the fenders are not.

There's more to check for, but I'm a bit too buzzed to think of them right now. Good luck though!

18.5 I wouldn't get one that has wide body or rolled fenders.

It's a matter of personal taste but as far as I'm concerned all of the bling and body kit stuff is junk that ads nothing to the driving of the car and even less to the long term value.

Also price seems high for a 70K miles car in that condition

I totally agree. Those fenders are hideous and it blows my mind that people actually pay money for that. There are clean stock examples for around that money or less.
