Default Recently Test Drove a 2000 S2000

...and i noticed while decelerating around 2k-3krpm's, there seemed to be a slight buzz or vibration sound. I remember reading somewhere while doing research for the car that the clutches on the early model S2000's made some sort of sound. Is what I experienced this "clutch buzz" that I have read about? Is it a big deal that would cause me problems in the future, or is it just a noise and no big deal?

Some info on the car:

2000 Silverstone S2000
68k miles
Hardtop
Needs paint on front and rear bumpers and on a fender, dealer agreed to paint it.
They are replacing the rear plastic window on the soft top, it is very faded.
They will not let me see the maintenance records for the car due to the new post-911 privacy laws.
They will give me a 1 year 12k mile warranty, but I want to push them to throw in they extended powertrain warranty due to the lack of records.

And they are asking $15,900, does this sound reasonable? Blue book value is rated at $14,900 for good condition.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds reasonable with the HT. I would have them paint it BEFORE you legally commit to purchasing it so that you can make sure that it turns out how you want it.

Ask them to redact the the owner-identifying information from the maintenance history records. They should then be willing to give them to you unless there is something there they want to hide.

ask them to honor the clutch buzz TSB before buying as well

decent price if they honor the TSB and paint it before you take delivery

Price isn't bad though. I've seen dealerships around here ask higher than 17k for a MY00 with similar miles without a hardtop.

Run a carfax on it to see if they are hiding something from you.

It's a good price, but it seems a little sketch that they won't show you the records.

Are they repainting the whole car, or just a few pieces? why do those pieces need paint?

as far as the clutch buzz, it doesn't bother me when I'm driving around top down, but with the top up, it's kind of annoying. I'm getting used to it, but I'm always afraid that a passenger is going to be like "this car sounds like it's falling apart".

If you can get them to fix it, do it.

You just have to register then the info is all yours, no biggie.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Don't forget to make sure that they have the right tires on the car. If it's not S02's(OEM). The rears should be 245/45/16, fronts 205/55/16.
