Just respect it, don't be stupid right away and try to show off. Most people never have any problems, but I don't know your driving habits. Get a feel for the car in all conditions before you try to push it.

This is the best advice. You're already way ahead of the curve for understanding that they will be different.

Also keep in mind, FWD vs. RWD will have different advantages and disadvantages depending on road conditions. While xviper is correct in saying that you can crash any car by being stupid, understanding a bit of the physics will help you know when to be especially careful.

For example, let's consider only forward traction in low grip conditions (rain, snow, ice etc.) If you have a FWD and RWD car with the same power on a dry drag strip, the RWD car should get a better launch because weight transfers onto the drive wheels instead of off.

Now cover the dragstrip in snow, I'd wager the FWD car gets off the line better, because there's not enough grip to cause major weight transfer and now the FWD car has 60% of its mass on top of the drive wheels while the RWD car has 50% or less.

FWD and RWD cars also react differently in corners, even in different parts of a corner. Until you have a chance to experience this in a controlled environment, just take it easy on the street.
