Is an S2000 for me?
Well i guess i should kinda introduce myself first. Well names Victor and i am business major in Biloxi, MS. I work full time and go to school full time. I currently own a 2003 Honda Civic Si. I have been thinking for the past 6 months about selling the Si and buying an S2000. But here is the thing the S2000 would be my DD and would see about 150 miles every week. I under stand that the S2000 is not a gas saver like most other hondas. I would buy a 00' or 01' and would like to stay around $15,000. When i sale my Si i will have about $8,000-$9,000 to put down on a S2000 so the loan will not be for to much. But i just want opinions on if i am making a solid choice. I understand the maintance and upkeep for an S2000, i have been lurking around this sit for awhile now just reading and reading and reading. So let me know what you think.
if you don't need back seats and don't need much cargo space then it really doesn't matter what car you drive as a daily driver. if you do need either or both, then obviously the s2k won't work well for you. also, why do you want to have to take out a loan for a used car?? if you can't cash $15K, then i suggest putting off your purchase till you're done with school. personally, if i were in your shoes, i'd just keep the Si. it's paid for, got better gas mileage, have a cheaper insurance rate, and have passenger and cargo space for if and when you need it. besides, given your busy work and school schedule, and the fact that you drive merely 150 miles a week, you really don't have the time to enjoy your s2k, so might as well just stick with a more practical and overall lesser expensive car for the time being.
I understand what you are saying...the Si is not payed for. So it will belike just having a different car to pay for. Monthly payment will be the same. i have time to enjoy it. i spend about two hours a week just cleaning and about another hour on maintance. And i really dont need the space nor the other seats. and the Si is not the best on gas either.
if you don't have too much to carry around, dont like to take a lot of people everytime there's an event, don't need to carry funiture every now and then, likes to cruise top down, likes good handling cars, and don't really care about simi bumpy/noisy rides, then this car is for you. LOL
I use mine as a daily driver for the past 2 years +. I drive about 350miles per week...no biggie as long as you don't mind the car for what it is

Sweet sweet i am really think about it. I just need to find one around me...but they are usually alot more then 15K. Oh and i am a suspension whore...i am all about the stiffness LOL.

and the softtops..... theives like to cut them.
best if you garage it at night or get a hardtop
over the past year I have read a 100 post of tops cut and seats gone
seats from dealer are $8000-9000
I went from a full sized Bronco to a SVT focus to a S2000
driving in the rain? you will need to drive like grandma or you will tag a curb
MOST every new racecar driver here has

-rain, you need to watch the rear tire wear
look at autotrader.com cars.com etc you should be able to get a good ap1 for less than $15K. use caution since if a deal looks to good to be true, well its bad.
-get access to a carfax account
-avoid anything flood damage, a salvage from CA might be ok
-require a clear title or a plan to get there
-cash + reciept works so fine.
-buy from someone that appears willing to work with you, usally there is a hitch that requires maintance, if the previous owner kills cats for a hobby he will not work out in the long run.
-spring is not a good time to buy a convertable, cost wise.
i bought a s2000 november of 04 for $13.5K, 50Kmi, from a NJ dealer, i live in denver, i had a hassle with the title. lots of fun driving it home tho.
-expect 27m/g if you drive like a grandmother (generally a good idea first off), maybe 1/2 that at min.
-the s2k is reliable, 50kmi seems ok if the previous owner kept up maintance
