Default Talk me out of getting a Lotus Elise

Drove one today...was really really fun >.< I like the style points u get with it too...i could feel the attention being grabbed from everyone I passed lol. It's rough tho...it's hard to justify spending $15k over the s2k for a lotus. THe performance wasn't as great as I was expecting...doesnt' really pull as hard as i thought...but the handling was great of course

ANyone wanna try to talk me outta getting it over the s2k?

Not me
I would say get the new Lotus Elise Exige S....but thats not 15k over the S, more like 20+k over the S.

For me the Elise is too small, but if I could fit in one comfortably
and afford one
I would roll it.

Just gotta ask yourself if the minimalist interior and track-centric ride quality is something you could live with every day all the time.

I have heard oil changes are a bitch.
body work for it is insane if you get in an accident

It's very very tiny..someone of my stature is about at the limit in the S (6'2" 195) and cant even imagine trying to cram into an Elise.

The looks are hot, but not enough for me to lose out on livability.

I'm 6'2 and I fit in it fine...in fact, i'd say it fit perfectly =) I'm only considering the Elise...i'd love to have an exige S...but that's past my limit....they're invoicing @ almost $60k =\

As far as daily driving...i wouldn't be daily driving it (nor would I daily drive the s2k). I have my Elantra for my 35 mile one-way commutes to work =)

I think it seems a little too stripped down, but it depends on what you like. Is it going to just be for the track or the weekends or what? I like talking the lady out crusing in the S and I think anything harsher (like an Elise) would be too much for her.

Also, I gotta say, if you do get the Lotus, get the Exige.

But what about just some new stuff for the S? Coilovers, FI, etc?

I've driven both the Elise and the Exige S. I would take my S2000 over either one of them for the price. The elise isn't nearly as quick as it should be, considering it costs as much as a C6 vette. For the price of an Exige S, you're talking a Z06 now. That's not a very hard choice at all. 220hp for $58,000?! I paid less than half that for my S2k with only 25,000 miles on it. That would leave money for a lovefab turbo kit, the best coilovers you can buy, endless 6-pot brakes, any wheel/tire combo, a Spoon dry carbon hard top, a Top Secret cf wing, and a year of insurance and gas. Your S2000 will now weigh 2,5xx pounds, have 500hp, and handle/brake better than the Lotus. If you just want a status symbol, get the lotus. If you want performance, mod an S2k or buy a vette.

I agree with TOOFAST4YALL!

Or if you really want one try and find a cheaper used model that someone is selling because they hate the ride quality for everyday use.

Go S all the way though as that's alot of money for an increment in performance...plus around that price you could get yourself a nice:

NSX!!!!!!

the S has easier maintainance, better gearbox. i dont think u get much more for the extra money spent and you def get a lot less in other categories.
