What to look for when buying a used S2000
Another thing you can do is pull the manifold side of the pcv line out from its fitting when the engine is running. Have the owner or a buddy rev the engine. Place your hand an inch or two away from the pcv line. If the air rushes out abnormally quickly or forcefully (use a new or low milegae S as a guide) this can be an idication of "blow by" meaning the piston rings are not sealing as well as they should be.
This is a very basic test of engine shape.
I am bumping a 60+day old thread because the provided buyer's guide is such great information.

I checked out a 2008 CR today that was missing the VIN stickers on the front bumper and fenders, the auto broker that was selling the car said he bought it from a Honda dealership (where it was a CPO car prior to going to auction) that said it was repainted for purely cosmetic reasons to get rid of all the nicks and rock chips. The car was originally leased and the owner put 20k on it in 15 months, so I'd imagine that was a ton of highway driving so a lot of rock chips sounds plausible. What are the next steps to verify that the car was not in an accident? I intend to get a PPI if we come to terms, I'm guessing a Honda dealership would be able to spot any non-OEM replacement parts - is there anything else that I can have them look for? I intend to autocross this car and I don't want to buy a car that's been in an accident in case it's a little "off", so if there are any additional things that I should investigate to verify that it was just a cosmetic repair, I'd really appreciate your input
CarFax did not mention any accidents or repair work...
Thanks!
