Yes, and in heals
Hey you,
And by you, I'm more referring to the group "you" of the s2000 community, though also directly to the people reading this as well as to all the s2k owners who I have enjoyed waving to and driving with for the past six years.
I count myself as being very lucky, because I literally learned how to drive stick on an s2000. Ok, to be fair, I’m not entirely sure it was lucky, as the entire time I was panicked that I was going to destroy my mom’s pride and joy (and no, I’m not referring to me… but to the car, duh). So, after hearing my dad lecture me countless times on how driving stick is a “balancing act between the clutch and the gas” (and a day or two of driving a jeep wrangler), it clicked. And it was wonderful. My exact words were “it’s like driving a video game”, to which I was immediately reminded that if I crashed it into a guard rail, everything would NOT be ok.
Fast forward about 6 years and I was ready to buy my first adult car. Now, many people think an adult car is synonymous with “boring” or “sedan”, but I disagreed full heartedly. As I was exploring different car options and going to different dealers, requesting test drives and what not (s2000, miata, 350z), but kept getting pushback about test-drives because they didn’t have automatics. Can someone tell my why in the world I would want to drive an automatic? Isn’t shifting half the fun of driving? Anyways, at that point, I enjoyed mentioning that I can drive a stick shift in four inch heels, and casually inquiring if they could. Haha. I ended up finding my ideal dream car (2003 s2000 with 15,000 miles) from a private seller a state away.
“Little Car” (as I lovingly call her) and I enjoyed a blissful life on an island in South Carolina where we thrived on the sun on our skin and sun in our hair. Recently, I moved back to Chicago (yes, winter made me question my intelligence on this topic when I could have been on a beach instead) and am thrilled to find more s2k owners to wave at on the road.
Alas… as I’m sure is no surprise to anyone on this forum…. Baby seats don’t really work so well in “Little Car”. So, I am sad to say I’m listing her as we speak, which in turn makes me sad every time I get in the car (different topic).
But, at least I finally got to join a legit s2000 forum before I leave this wonderful world behind. So, hello to all my fellow s2k enthusiast out there! (and, just in case my story left you in doubt: Yes, I can drive stick--in heels too! Though, to be honest, I still can't figure out how to add a picture to my post.. sigh.
Hugs,
Chelsea
